PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stefan Roosmalen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stefan Roosmalen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Black!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black shoots for a takedown but Roosmalen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Black misses the shot to the body.
Roosmalen lands a jab to Black's midsection.
John Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roosmalen looks for a takedown but Black sprawls well.
A solid body kick from Black.
Black darts in trying to clinch
and Roosmalen counters with a left and a right that stings Black.
Roosmalen moves out of range of the body kick from Black.
Black ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Black tries for a takedown but Roosmalen circles away easily
and Roosmalen counters with a nice low kick that buckles Black's knee momentarily.
Black tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Roosmalen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Black goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Roosmalen moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Roosmalen tries to bum rush Black with a series of wild strikes but Black uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Sloppy strikes from Black. Those never looked like landing.

Roosmalen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Black tries to kick Roosmalen off but Roosmalen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Roosmalen is trying to control. Black wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Black really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roosmalen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roosmalen wants to pass to mount but Black is defending the position.

Black tries to kick Roosmalen off but Roosmalen keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roosmalen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Black does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Roosmalen shoots in for a takedown but Black shows good takedown defense.

Roosmalen scores with a kick to the body.
Black tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Black misses with a lunging right hand
and Roosmalen counters with a solid body kick.
Black throws a wild body kick that Roosmalen sees coming a mile off.
Black avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Black takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Black looks gassed!
Black throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Roosmalen throws a head kick that misses
and Black counters with a leg kick.
Roosmalen throws an off balance right hand
and Black counters with a three punch combo that has Roosmalen backing up. Roosmalen nods at Black to acknowledge the strikes.
Roosmalen fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Roosmalen closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Black quickly recovers to half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Roosmalen lands a nice short elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roosmalen content to control rather than advance.
Roosmalen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Black pushes Roosmalen off looking to stand but Roosmalen dives back in and keeps control.
Roosmalen not doing much here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Roosmalen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Roosmalen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Roosmalen lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Black hang on?
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Black can do anything to dispel that myth.
Black tries to hold on but Roosmalen postures up.
Roosmalen prevents Black from getting the reversal.

The referee warns Black that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Roosmalen prevents Black from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roosmalen working for a guillotine from mount but Black is in no mood to give up.
Black tries to hold on but Roosmalen pushes him away.
Roosmalen lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
You get the feeling that Black really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Stefan Roosmalen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roosmalen tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Black is squirming around, avoiding Roosmalen's attempts to control the action.

Roosmalen postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Black looks a forlorn figure.
Black tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Black is breathing heavily.

A nice elbow there by Roosmalen.

Oooooh, big shot lands for Roosmalen! Black is hurt baaadly! Roosmalen is firing away with more strikes - Black is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stefan Roosmalen!
Post fight, an emotional Stefan Roosmalen said 'I have talked a lot of shit about John Black in the past, but he came here tonight and fought me like a man so I respect him for that. I wish John good luck in his future fights. As for me, I think that tonight I solidified the fact that I am one of the baddest men in BAC!!'.
