PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eddard Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Crusher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A right-left combo lands from Stark.

Crusher has taken the fight to the clinch.
Crusher landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Crusher just leaning against Stark, taking a breather.

Crusher lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Crusher slows the pace down in half guard.
Crusher's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stark avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Crusher.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Crusher has eaten all the pies!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Steven Crusher hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Stark cracks a nice hook into Crusher's ribs.
Crusher takes one on the button.

Crusher moves into the clinch.
Crusher's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Crusher breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Crusher shoots in for a takedown but Stark shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Stark thows a body shot but no joy.
Nice takedown defense from Stark. No joy for Crusher on that attempt.
Stark tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Crusher was well out of range. Poor timing from Stark.
Stark misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Crusher.
Stark connects with a body shot that sends Crusher's belly button to the back.
Eddard Stark is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Crusher forces Stark back against the cage and clinches.
Stark stops a takedown attempt from Crusher.
Eddard Stark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Crusher.

Crusher breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Crusher has a takedown stuffed.

Crusher closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Crusher lands in his opponent's guard.
Crusher throws a big right hand that misses.

Crusher gets to his feet - Stark follows without any prompting.
Stark misses with a body shot.

Crusher drives through and clinches with Stark against the cage.

Crusher is looking for a takedown.

Crusher gets control of Stark's arms and successfully pulls guard. Crusher will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Crusher has control of Stark's left arm, preventing Stark from doing any damage.
Crusher throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Stark's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Crusher rushes Stark and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Crusher misses with a punch to the body.

It looks like Eddard Stark has been cut.

Crusher wants the takedown. Stark is fighting it off but Crusher persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Stark's guard against the cage.
Crusher is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Crusher passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Stark takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Crusher advances nicely into full mount.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Crusher cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Crusher throws some wild stikes that Stark manages to avoid easily.
Crusher lands with some strikes.

Eddard Stark's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Eddard Stark's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
