The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and McGrew counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGrew distracts Diaz with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McGrew can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
McGrew working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Diaz's head.

Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - McGrew advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

McGrew takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

McGrew wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well.
Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but McGrew wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
