PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steven Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sydney Fife (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bishop kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is No Plan B. Fife has chosen The Offspring - Why Don't You Get A Job as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sydney Fife!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fife uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Bishop has time to react.
Fife tries to clinch but Bishop moves out of range.
Bishop avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Bishop scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Bishop stands up and beckons Fife to his feet.
Fife fails in his attempt to clinch.

Bishop drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Bishop trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bishop throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fife avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bishop postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bishop advances position into side control!
Bishop laying and praying for a moment but Fife takes advantage and regains half guard.

Fife is looking to improve his position.
Fife won't allow Bishop to pass to mount.
Bishop wants to take a breather but Fife is having none of it.
Fife really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bishop. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bishop throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Bishop is controlling the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bishop is just content to waste time from the top position. Fife takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Bishop wants to control from the top but Fife keeps moving.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Bishop throws a big elbow that misses.
Bishop wants to pass the guard but Fife is keeping the position.
Bishop has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bishop wants to stand but Fife is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Steven Bishop.
Bishop tries for a takedown but Fife sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fife circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sydney Fife is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bishop walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Bishop shoots in but Fife avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Fife tries to close the distance and clinch but Bishop swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A jab lands there for Fife.
Fife lands a two punch combo.

Bishop gets the takedown into side control.
Bishop is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fife is trying to improve his position.
Fife trying to remain calm as Bishop controls from the top position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fife managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Bishop.
Bishop is staying tight to Fife's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Bishop has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bishop throws a strike aimed at the side of Fife's head but Fife avoids it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fife scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Sydney Fife seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bishop shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Fife but Fife pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fife throws a series of punches but Bishop avoids them all with ease.
Bishop tries for a takedown but Fife sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Fife jabs Bishop to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Bishop pushes Fife up against the cage in a clinch.
Fife wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Fife breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bishop throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Fife.
Fife keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Bishop is rocked!
Fife lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Oh Bishop is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fife plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Bishop to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Bishop just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!
