PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Victor Hugo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateus Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Victor Hugo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mateus Allen!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Allen pushes Hugo up against the cage in a clinch.
Hugo jumps guard but Allen stands there with Hugo around his waist. Hugo gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Allen wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Allen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hugo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Allen defends it nicely.
Allen leaves Hugo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Victor Hugo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Allen tries to close the distance and clinch but Hugo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Allen. No joy for Hugo on that attempt.
Mateus Allen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hugo shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Allen sprawls well. Allen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hugo gets slowly back to his feet.

Allen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Allen wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hugo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Hugo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Allen just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hugo has Allen pressed against the cage, preventing Allen from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Allen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Allen takes a swing at Hugo's ribcage but misses.
Allen slaps away a takedown attempt from Hugo, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Allen moves into range and clinches up with Hugo.

Hugo is looking for a takedown.
Allen is trying to break the clinch but Hugo has him pressed against the cage.
Allen lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Hugo.
Allen wants to get back to striking at distance but Hugo won't allow it.
Allen stops a takedown attempt from Hugo.
Hugo tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Allen smiles and moves away.
Hugo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Allen counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Allen takes the fight into the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Allen breaks from the clinch.
Allen tries to clinch up but Hugo circles away and keeps his distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hugo paws at him with a jab and circles away.
No joy there for Allen, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Allen jabs Hugo to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hugo shoots and misses

and Allen moves into the clinch.
The referee calls for Allen to work.
Hugo wants a takedown.

Allen manages to break the clinch.
Allen tries to bum rush Hugo with a series of wild strikes but Hugo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Hugo dodges the punch combination from Allen.
Hugo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Allen sizes up Hugo with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Allen clinches up against the cage.
Allen looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hugo is trying to drag Allen to the mat but Allen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Hugo keeps control of Allen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hugo working aggressively here.
Allen has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mateus Allen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Allen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hugo was well out of range. Poor timing from Allen.
Allen tries to clinch but Hugo is having none of it.
Allen throws a predictable looking body shot

so Hugo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Allen is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hugo is controlling him.
Hugo wants to pass the guard but Allen is keeping the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Allen can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hugo is working hard here to advance position.
Allen wants to stand and escape but Hugo is having none of it.
Allen keeping moving, preventing Hugo from controlling successfully.

Allen has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hugo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Hugo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Allen holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Allen tries to circle away but Hugo has him pinned against the cage.

Hugo circles away from the clinch attempt.

Hugo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Allen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hugo closes the distance and clinches up with Allen, looking for a takedown. Hugo pushes Allen against the cage but Allen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Allen moves into range and clinches up with Hugo.
Hugo wants to take the fight to the mat but Allen manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Allen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mateus Allen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hugo shoots for a takedown but Allen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mateus Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Allen looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Allen takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Allen scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Mateus Allen seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Allen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hugo.

Allen is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Hugo swings wildly with an uppercut but Allen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Allen wants to get back to striking at distance but Hugo won't allow it.

Allen is trying to break the clinch but Hugo has him pressed against the cage.
Allen is pressed up against the cage. Hugo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Allen down to the mat. Allen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Hugo gets tackled into the cage by Allen. Allen maintains the clinch.
Hugo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Allen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hugo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Allen pulls his leg out and moves away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mateus Allen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Allen winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
