Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kaplan.
Kaplan closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Kaplan pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters circling a little - Smith finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Kaplan is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kaplan gets tackled into the cage by Smith. Smith maintains the clinch.

Smith digs a right hand into Kaplan's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kaplan's gas tank.
A right hook to the body lands for Smith.

Smith has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Kaplan is trying to keep an underhook but Smith manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

It looks like Joe Kaplan has been cut.
Smith slows the pace down in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith stands up from half guard.
Smith bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Smith lands a nice looking body kick.
Smith lands with a nice body kick.
Smith throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Smith. Kaplan shrugs it off though.
Smith fakes the leg kick and cracks Kaplan in the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kaplan sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Smith has closed the distance and engaged Kaplan in a clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Smith.
Smith lands a nice shot to the body.
Smith cracks Kaplan with a nice body shot.

Smith lands a takedown into guard.
Smith engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Smith gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Smith moves into the clinch successfully.
Kaplan can't break the clinch.
Smith stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Kaplan misses with a short punch on the inside.

Kaplan is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Kaplan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kaplan stops a takedown attempt from Smith.
Kaplan wants to break the clinch but can't.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Smith pushes Kaplan back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Smith works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Smith is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Smith is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Smith is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kaplan is surviving well by controlling Smith's body position as best he can.
