The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schafer tries to sprawl but DeNero drives through with a takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Schafer is looking for a sweep. DeNero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
DeNero is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
DeNero is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
DeNero is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Schafer is just riding it out for now. DeNero eventually gives up the hold.

DeNero shoots in for a takedown but Schafer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Schafer feints and then cracks DeNero's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow DeNero down.
A big left from DeNero misses.
DeNero tries to close the distance and clinch but Schafer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
DeNero on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Schafer. Schafer obviously looking to wear him down.
DeNero is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

DeNero is trying to pull guard but Schafer has him pressed against the cage.

Schafer lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of DeNero backwards.
DeNero tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Schafer just stands there and leans against the cage.

DeNero jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Schafer walks away with a smile on his face. DeNero gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Schafer thuds a left hand into DeNero's body.
Schafer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

A right hook to the body lands for Schafer.
Schafer stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Schafer lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Schafer connects with a knee to the head.
Schafer lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of DeNero backwards.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
DeNero is trying to pull guard but Schafer has him pressed against the cage.
Schafer connects with a nasty looking knee right to DeNero's face.
DeNero is rocked!
Schafer pushes DeNero against the cage. Schafer is working some dirty boxing. Schafer pushes off with a quick right hook! DeNero goes down! DeNero tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Schafer moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Keith Schafer!
