Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hernando Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez misses with an uppercut
and Silva counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cortez tries a head kick but it misses.

Cortez scores with a takedown into Silva's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Cortez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Cortez wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Cortez passes into half guard.
Silva tries to roll over but Cortez keeps him under control.
Cortez not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Cortez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Silva avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Cortez.

Silva moves into full guard.

Cortez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cortez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Silva working for submissions but it's allowed Cortez to get to half guard.
Silva wants to improve his position but Cortez is controlling well.

Cortez is working for a kimura but Silva is defending it quite comfortably.
Cortez looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Cortez wants to control but Silva is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cortez frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Silva is in a horrible position here. Cortez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Cortez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cortez is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Cortez uses his free foot to push down on Silva's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Silva.
Cortez prevents Silva from getting the reversal.
Cortez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.


Silva is rocked!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cortez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Oh Silva is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Silva takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Cortez's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hernando Cortez!
An out of breath Hernando Cortez thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
