The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taylor throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mercado's waist but Mercado gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Taylor off to one side.

Mercado parries the strikes from Taylor easily there. Taylor is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mercado to escape.

Taylor throws an elbow but Mercado slips to the side and avoids it well.
Taylor postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Taylor sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Mercado is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Taylor is working Mercado over with some ground and pound from side control.
Mercado really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
