PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chay Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chay Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Robert Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ray on his heels. He'll look to pass Ray's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ray has a closed guard, preventing Johnson from standing up.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ray is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ray has escaped and now he's on top!
Johnson looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Ray is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Ray's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Johnson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Ray won't allow Johnson to get back to his feet.

Chay Ray has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Johnson.

Johnson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Ray is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Johnson has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Ray sneaks out the side door and pushes Johnson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Johnson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Johnson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ray really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Johnson is trying to control the action in half guard but Ray is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Johnson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Johnson clinches up with Ray and pushes him back against the cage.
Ray looking for a takedown.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ray has his takedown stuffed

and Johnson counters by moving into the clinch.
Ray is breathing heavily.

Johnson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ray can't fight it off and eventually Johnson manages to take the fight to the floor. Ray looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ray wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Ray is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Johnson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Johnson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ray is trying to defend but Johnson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ray looks like he's trying to stand up.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ray does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Robert Johnson wasn't active enough on the ground.

Johnson drives through with a takedown into Ray's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ray wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Johnson stands up and waves to Ray to follow him.

Johnson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Johnson lands in his opponent's guard.

Ray wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it.

Ray is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Chay Ray is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Robert Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far.

Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Robert Johnson hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Ray shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Robert Johnson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Chay Ray.

Ray sneaks out the side door and pushes Johnson away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ray tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.

Johnson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ray was covering up waiting for the punch and Johnson finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Johnson passes Ray's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Johnson stands up out of the half guard.

Ray shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Ray's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Johnson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Johnson decides to stand back up. Johnson steps back and let's Ray get back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Robert Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
