Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phal Um (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liu Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phal Um!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Liu Kang!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Um throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kang.
Um throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Um shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Kang wants to sweep here but Um controlling him for the moment.
Um throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kang works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Um tries to free his leg and advance position but Kang is retaining full guard.
Um throws a strike but Kang rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Um throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Um looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kang trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Um scores with a three punch combo!

Nice defenses there by Kang.
Um shoots in and drives through. Kang sprawls well.
Kang blocks a jab.
Um closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kang circles away.
Um throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Um works the jab nicely.
Um shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phal Um. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Um shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kang but Kang pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Um fails to land the takedown.

Kang tries to get to full guard but Um has control of the leg.
Kang keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Um sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kang defending well though.

Um throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kang is trying to control but can't.
Um working over Kang with some ground and pound. Kang looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Kang holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Kang trying to control from the bottom.
Kang tries to get to full guard but Um has control of the leg.
Kang is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Um can do anything to dispel that myth.
Um thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kang's head.
Kang on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Um passes to side control.
Kang takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Um wants to control but Kang is keeping him busy.
Um will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Kang is trying to improve his position.
Kang manages to get back to half guard.
Um works his foot free and advances to mount.
Kang slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Um working Kang over with strikes.
Um wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kang keeps working.
Ground and pound from Um.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Um is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Um connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Um trying to control but Kang is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phal Um dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Um throws a right and a left that Kang avoids nicely.
Um looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kang is fending him off so far but Um persists. Nope, Kang circles away and we're back to standing.
Um throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kang on the side of the head.
Left hook, right uppercut from Um.
Nice body punch from Um.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kang gets caught flat footed, as Um shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kang throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Um is looking to advance position but Kang has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Kang lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Um tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Um tries to hold on but Kang pushes him away.
Um throwing hammer fists to the chest of Kang. What's that going to do exactly?

Kang has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Um's face.
Um is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Kang trying to control but Um is having none of it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kang lands a nice short elbow.
Um works his way to full guard. Good work.
Um wants to sweep here but Kang controlling him for the moment.
Kang in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Kang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Um will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice shot lands for Um.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Horrible takedown by Um or perhaps it was just good defense by Kang which made him look bad.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Um.

Um misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Um misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Phal Um seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown by Um or perhaps it was just good defense by Kang which made him look bad.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Um fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A close second round but Liu Kang will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Um clobbers Kang with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Um throws a right hand that Kang ducks under and follows up with a left that Kang also avoids with ease.
Um scores with a jab. Kang acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Kang stuffs the takedown.
Um waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Kang.
Um throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kang should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Um scores with a three punch combo!
Um misses with a straight left.
Um shoots in and drives through. Kang sprawls well.

Um swinging wilding here.

Um throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Um tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kang swivels and escapes.

Kang on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Um throws a good cross that connects.
Um misses with a wild combination.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Um rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kang moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nice sprawl there from Kang as Um shoots in.
Um throws the left hand but Kang avoids the punch easily.
Um misses with the combination.
Jab by Um.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Um looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Um shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kang pinned against the cage. Kang gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Phal Um showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Um has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
