Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Santino Marconi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cody Wells!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wells swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Marconi looking to score a takedown here. Wells is defending well but Marconi drives through and ends up in Wells's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Marconi throwing strikes but missing.
Marconi controlling from the top position.
Wells looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Marconi wants to control from the top but Wells keeps moving.
Marconi is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wells is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Wells is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Santino Marconi wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Wells doesn't manage to clinch there - Marconi circles away.

Marconi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wells as he avoids it easily.
Marconi fails with a takedown attempt.
Wells looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marconi is fending him off so far but Wells persists. Nope, Marconi circles away and we're back to standing.
Marconi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santino Marconi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wells cracks a nice hook into Marconi's ribs.
Wells closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marconi circles away.
Marconi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wells sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marconi somewhat.

Wells closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Wells lands in his opponent's guard.

Wells got a little sloppy there for a moment and Marconi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wells has managed to get both his arms back between Marconi's legs - danger averted.
Marconi keeping moving, preventing Wells from controlling successfully.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Cody Wells hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marconi moves out of range of the body kick from Wells.
Wells lands a nice shot that snaps Marconi's head back.
Wells with a hook.

Marconi fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wells sprawls well initially but Marconi persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Marconi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Marconi is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wells wants to get back to his feet.

Marconi is looking for a kimura here.
Wells is staying active underneath Marconi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wells is trying to maintain the position but Marconi is very close to passing his half guard.
Wells is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Marconi is staying active.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Marconi stalling.
Wells is pressing down on Marconi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Marconi distracts Wells with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Wells is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marconi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Wells is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cody Wells will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Marconi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Marconi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wells wants to clinch.
Santino Marconi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wells stuffs the takedown attempt from Marconi. Marconi gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santino Marconi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wells misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wells misses with the combination.
Wells lunges at Marconi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Marconi's hand.
Wells fails with the takedown.
Marconi closes the distance and clinches up with Wells, looking for a takedown. Marconi pushes Wells against the cage but Wells circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marconi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Wells gets back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Marconi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wells defends it well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Wells has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marconi is working away from the top position though.
Wells is doing well to control the position and prevent Marconi from advancing to side control.
Wells tries to roll over but Marconi keeps him under control.
Santino Marconi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wells manages to get to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Marconi is sitting in close to Wells's body. Wells has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Marconi is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Marconi is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Wells.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Cody Wells!
After the fight, Cody Wells was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
