The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz doesn't succeed with the takedown
so Welvaert counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Welvaert throwing strikes from guard but Diaz blocks nicely.
Welvaert tries to stand but Diaz is controlling from the bottom.
Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Welvaert can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Welvaert frees his head nicely. Oh but Diaz has switched to an armbar! Welvaert is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
