PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Carlo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jiang Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roberto Carlo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jiang Lee!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lee swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Carlo has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Lee.
Carlo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lee moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Carlo fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Carlo stuffs the takedown attempt from Lee. Lee gets slowly back to his feet.
Carlo misses with a straight left.

Lee has managed to clinch.

Lee breaks the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Lee. No joy for Carlo on that attempt.
Carlo shoots in for a double leg but Lee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roberto Carlo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carlo gets caught napping as Lee dives in and scores a takedown. Carlo manages to retain guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Carlo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lee must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Carlo lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Lee!
Carlo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Carlo won't let Lee get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Carlo prevents Lee from getting the reversal.
Carlo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Carlo manages to capitalize on a mistake by Lee to take his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carlo gets his hands free as Lee looks to control.

Carlo working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Lee tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Carlo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Carlo wants to control the pace but Lee is squirming around nicely.
Lee is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Lee keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Lee wants to get back to his feet.
Lee is wriggling around trying to escape.
Lee is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Lee tries to hold on but Carlo pushes him away.

Carlo looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Carlo trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Carlo is breathing heavily.

Carlo sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Carlo unloads with some shots from mount but Lee bucks and avoids them well.
Lee is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Lee is squirming around, avoiding Carlo's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lee wants to hold on but Carlo pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jiang Lee dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Lee shoots in and gets a takedown into Carlo's guard.

Lee wants to control from the top but Carlo keeps moving.

Lee drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lee jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Jiang Lee has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Carlo shoots in for a double leg but Lee sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lee swats away the attempt to clinch by Carlo.

Lee closes the distance and clinches.

Lee jumps into guard, dragging Carlo to the mat.
Lee is adopting a defensive guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carlo stopping the sweep attempt from Lee.
Carlo wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Lee swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A slow jab from Lee misses its intended target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lee clinches up against the cage.
Carlo tries to break free but Lee pushes him back against the cage.
Lee goes for a takedown attempt but Carlo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Carlo misses with a takedown attempt - Lee sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lee shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Carlo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Lee stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Carlo tries to clinch

and Lee holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carlo jumps guard but Lee turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roberto Carlo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lee works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lee showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Carlo keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carlo being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Lee wants to stand but Carlo is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jiang Lee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Lee moves into the clinch successfully.
Carlo stalling in the clinch but Lee improves position.
Carlo tries to pull guard but Lee holds him up against the cage and eventually Carlo drops back down to his feet.

Lee pulls guard.
Lee looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lee pulls Carlo in close to his closed guard and prevents Carlo from doing any damage or advancing position.

Carlo wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Roberto Carlo wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Carlo tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Lee holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Lee pulls guard.
Lee pulls Carlo in to control the position.
Carlo trying to control but Lee is working from the bottom.
Lee has control of Carlo's left arm, preventing Carlo from doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Carlo stands up and waves to Lee to follow him.

Lee shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Carlo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Carlo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carlo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lee is pressing down on Carlo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Jiang Lee is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lee has control of Carlo's left arm, preventing Carlo from doing any damage.
Carlo wants to stand but Lee is controlling his posture from full guard.
Jiang Lee has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lee has his foot on Carlo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carlo works his way back into a safe position though.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Lee is trying to work for a kimura but Carlo is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jiang Lee comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lee has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
