PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Hayabusa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oishi Yoshio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoshio has chosen "Stronger" by Kanye West as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Oishi Yoshio has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryu Hayabusa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Oishi Yoshio!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshio swats away the attempt to clinch by Hayabusa.
Yoshio throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Yoshio blocks a head kick by Hayabusa.
Hayabusa tries to close the distance and clinch up but Yoshio swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hayabusa shoots for a double leg takedown but Yoshio sprawls well. He's pushed Hayabusa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Hayabusa bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yoshio tries to buck Hayabusa off but Hayabusa is having none of it.
Yoshio can't do much from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Yoshio throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Yoshio tries to improve position but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hayabusa avoids the body shot from Yoshio.
Some wild striking there from Yoshio.
Hayabusa throws a head kick that misses.
Yoshio fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hayabusa moves out of range as Yoshio strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Yoshio wants to land a leg kick but Hayabusa is out of range.
Yoshio will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hayabusa keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Yoshio.
Oishi Yoshio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hayabusa lands a with a good body shot.
Yoshio throws a series of punches but Hayabusa avoids them all with ease.

and Hayabusa holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Hayabusa just misses with a elbow thrown towards Yoshio's brow.
Yoshio misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Hayabusa wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Yoshio has him pressed against the cage.
Hayabusa can't break the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hayabusa throws an elbow but misses.

Yoshio has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hayabusa uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hayabusa is looking to stand up but Yoshio won't let him.
Yoshio wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Yoshio isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Hayabusa stacks Yoshio on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Hayabusa!

Yoshio misses with a combination

and Hayabusa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Yoshio's guard.
Yoshio is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Hayabusa wants to control from the top but Yoshio keeps moving.
Hayabusa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Yoshio holds on and takes a little breather.

Yoshio looking to control.
Yoshio is striking from the bottom but Hayabusa uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Yoshio works his way to full guard. Good work.
Yoshio seems keen to control Hayabusa's posture.
Hayabusa would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryu Hayabusa dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Yoshio looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Yoshio swings widly with a right hand
and Hayabusa counters with a left and a right that stings Yoshio.
Yoshio tries to clinch but Hayabusa moves out of range.
Yoshio throws a lazy head kick
and Hayabusa counters with a big head kick but Yoshio shrugs it off.
Yoshio tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Hayabusa counters with a right hand to the body.
Hayabusa fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ryu Hayabusa is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Yoshio throws a nice looking combination but Hayabusa bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hayabusa lands with a nice body punch.
Yoshio tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hayabusa paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Yoshio falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hayabusa holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
The referee calls for Yoshio to work.
Yoshio blocks the elbow strike.

The is referee keeping an eye on Yoshio - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Hayabusa tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Yoshio tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hayabusa just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hayabusa is looking to control Yoshio's arms but Yoshio gets an underhook and turns him. Now Hayabusa has his back to the cage.
Yoshio lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Yoshio changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hayabusa fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hayabusa closes the distance but Yoshio moves to the side

and Yoshio counters by moving into the clinch.
Hayabusa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Yoshio just stands there and leans against the cage.

The fighters are battling for position here. Yoshio manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Yoshio has his hands on Hayabusa's head, controlling the position.
Hayabusa wants to stand but Yoshio is controlling his posture from full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Yoshio looking for a sweep. Not yet Yoshio, not yet.
Hayabusa wants to stand but Yoshio has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Yoshio is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Hayabusa rolls with it to try and escape but Yoshio cranks on the arm and Hayabusa is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
