PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lee Chao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chao comes to the cage accompanied by Metallica-The Unforgiven. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Chao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Kelly!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly moves out of range as Chao throws a body kick.
Kelly fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Chao looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Kelly stuffs the takedown attempt from Chao. Chao gets slowly back to his feet.
Kelly stuffs the takedown.
Kelly stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kelly wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lee Chao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chao wants to clinch up but Kelly keeps it at a distance.
Kelly shoots for a double leg takedown but Chao sprawls well. He's pushed Kelly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kelly is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Nice takedown defense from Chao. No joy for Kelly on that attempt.

Chao is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kelly is defending well.
Chao drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kelly pulls his leg out and moves away.

Kelly fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Chao, pushing him back against the cage.

Chao shoots in but no luck this time.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kelly.
Kelly shoots in for a takedown but Chao shows good takedown defense.
Chao looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Kelly slaps away a takedown attempt from Chao, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kelly lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kelly looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kelly looks to land a combination. Chao sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Kelly scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Chao doesn't seem bothered though.

Kelly has Chao up against the cage in a clinch.

Kelly gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Kelly decides to return to a standing position.
Kelly fails with a takedown attempt.
Kelly leaves Chao with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chao throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kelly's waist but Kelly gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Chao off to one side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Chao wants to clinch up but Kelly keeps it at a distance.
Chao tries to clinch up but Kelly circles away and keeps his distance.

Kelly struggles to land a body shot inside as Chao controls his hands.
Kelly is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Chao wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Chao wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Chao is looking to take this one to the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Kelly dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chao stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Chao wants it to stay on the feet.
Chao circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chao defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kelly.
Chao shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chao dives in and grabs Kelly's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kelly pushes down on Chao's head and hops out.
Chao shoots for a takedown but Kelly saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kelly changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chao tries to avoid it but Kelly manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chao to the ground. Chao escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kelly misses with a few strikes there.
Chao dives in and grabs Kelly's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kelly pushes down on Chao's head and hops out.

Kelly is pressed up against the cage. Chao has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kelly down to the mat. Kelly avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Chao tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Chao fails to land the takedown.

Kelly looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kelly wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chao keeps working.

Chao kicks Kelly off and gets back to his feet.

Chao gets a clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Kelly just misses with a elbow thrown towards Chao's brow.
Chao wants a takedown but no success here.

Kelly gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Chao regains guard.
Kelly won't allow Chao to sweep him here.
Chao managing to control the position.
Kelly wants to control from the top but Chao keeps moving.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chao fails with the takedown.
Horrible takedown by Kelly or perhaps it was just good defense by Chao which made him look bad.
Chao throws a hook but Kelly blocks it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chao tries to clinch there but Kelly circles away.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Brian Kelly will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Chao's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Kelly throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Chao changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kelly tries to avoid it but Chao manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kelly to the ground. Kelly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Chao clinches up with Kelly and pushes him back against the cage.

Chao manages to pull guard.
Kelly throws an elbow that misses. Chao uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kelly's guard. Nice move by Chao!
Kelly looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chao is one step ahead there.
Kelly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Chao working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Chao gets to his feet - Kelly follows without any prompting.
Chao changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kelly tries to avoid it but Chao manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kelly to the ground. Kelly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kelly wants to stall.

Chao pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chao misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kelly misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lee Chao has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brian Kelly is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Chao throws a low kick, looking for Kelly's leg but Kelly calmly moves out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lee Chao showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kelly has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
