The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marcelo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alves's calf.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Alves.
Marcelo lands a front kick.
Alves looks to clinch
and Marcelo counters with a solid body kick.
Alves is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Marcelo connects with a solid leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Marcelo, right into the meat.
Marcelo connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Marcelo fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Alves.
An inside leg kick lands from Marcelo.
Marcelo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Alves has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Good leg kick by Marcelo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Flavio Marcelo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A nice leg kick lands there from Marcelo.
Marcelo lands a nice looking kick to the body. Alves takes a step back to recover.
Marcelo lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Marcelo pushes Alves away with a front kick.
Marcelo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alves. That did some damage!
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Alves crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Marcelo - the referee stops the clock and Alves gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Marcelo. Alves manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Marcelo thuds his shin into the meat of Alves's side.
The fighters circle, before Marcelo throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Alves's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Marcelo lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
