PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rey Jr Kane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rey Jr Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aleksandr Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Paulsen Ambrosius and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karelin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kane as he avoids it easily.
Karelin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Karelin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kane pinned against the cage. Kane gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Karelin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Rey Jr Kane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksandr Karelin.

Kane drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Karelin wants to sweep here but Kane controlling him for the moment.
Karelin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Karelin has his hands on Kane's head, controlling the position.
Kane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kane stays in close to Karelin's body and controls the position.
Kane trying to control the position from guard on top but Karelin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rey Jr Kane.
Karelin doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Kane counters with a series of strikes. Karelin will be more careful next time no doubt.
Karelin keeps the fight on the outside.
Aleksandr Karelin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Karelin checks a leg kick nicely.
Kane shoots in for a double leg but Karelin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Karelin takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kane changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Karelin fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Kane counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kane.
Karelin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Karelin blocks the strikes from Kane.

Kane wants to control but Karelin is keeping busy.

Karelin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Karelin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Karelin misses with a head shot. Kane uses the momentum to regain guard.

Kane is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Karelin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Karelin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Karelin cracks Kane with a solid left hand.
Karelin lands a couple of elbows.
Karelin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Karelin stands and steps away. Kane gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Kane keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Karelin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Karelin showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karelin is thwarting Kane's attempts to control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kane is not content to let Karelin control the position.
Kane is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rey Jr Kane will probably get the nod.

Karelin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kane's guard.
Karelin is in close to Kane's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Karelin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kane controls Karelin momentarily but Karelin frees himself.
Karelin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Karelin stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Karelin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kane sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Karelin somewhat.

Karelin looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kane is trying to get back to full guard.

Kane has hold of Karelin's hands but Karelin slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Kane makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kane.

Kane is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Karelin defends well.

Kane working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Karelin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Karelin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Aleksandr Karelin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Karelin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kane's half guard.
Karelin is looking to take a break and control but Kane is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Karelin wants to free his trapped foot but Kane is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kane is looking to escape.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Karelin has eaten all the pies!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Karelin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Karelin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kane with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Karelin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Karelin lands a nice short elbow.

and Kane counters with a shoot takedown. Karelin fights it but they end up in guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Aleksandr Karelin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Karelin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
