PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Metal Slug (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Cappo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Slug kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Kick in the door. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Metal Slug!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ray Cappo!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cappo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Slug connects with a high kick.
Cappo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Slug but Slug pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Slug avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cappo fails with the takedown
and Slug counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cappo's knee momentarily.
Metal Slug has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ray Cappo.
Slug swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Cappo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Cappo shoots for a takedown but Slug saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Cappo is still on wobbly legs! Can Slug finish him?
Ray Cappo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cappo shoots in but no luck this time.
Cappo seems to have recovered his senses.
Slug throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Slug throws a nice looking combination but Cappo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Slug really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Cappo has closed the distance and engaged Slug in a clinch.
Slug misses with a punch on the inside.
Cappo lands with a right to the head.

Cappo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cappo is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Cappo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Slug is aware though and is defending well.

Slug looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cappo closes the distance and clinches up with Slug, looking for a takedown. Cappo pushes Slug against the cage but Slug circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Metal Slug is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cappo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Cappo blocks a head kick by Slug.
Slug keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Slug scores with a head kick.
Slug scores with a push kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cappo.
Cappo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Slug sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cappo somewhat.

Cappo throws a right and a left that Slug avoids nicely.

Slug tries to keep at a distance but Cappo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Slug throws a punch but it's blocked by Cappo.

Cappo lands a takedown into guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cappo wants to control from the top but Slug keeps moving.

Slug is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cappo defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Metal Slug will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A combination from Slug does no damage.

Cappo clinches with his opponent.
Cappo lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Slug tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Cappo's elbow.

Cappo wants the takedown. Slug is fighting it off but Cappo persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Slug's guard against the cage.
Cappo's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Cappo drops back looking for a leg! Slug is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Slug manages to kick Cappo off! Cappo jumps back into Slug's guard.
Cappo wants to control from the top but Slug keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cappo passes into half guard.
Cappo trying to control the pace.
Slug has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cappo is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Slug is looking to improve his position.
Slug knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Cappo on the ground.
Slug is trying to control but can't.

Cappo works his way into full mount!
Cappo can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Slug is looking to escape.
Slug slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Cappo slips a nice elbow through Slug's hands, connecting with Slug's forehead.

Slug on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Slug tries to get out of the position.

Cappo is working for a kimura but Slug is defending it quite comfortably.
Cappo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Slug does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Slug is looking for a sweep. Cappo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cappo content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ray Cappo.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cappo.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Slug drops Cappo with a right and a left! Slug comes rushing in but Cappo regains his composure and manages to keep Slug in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Cappo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Cappo really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Resistance logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
