PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Lanzoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paulo Eduardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eduardo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Darude - Sandstorm. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Paulo Eduardo was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kevin Lanzoni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Eduardo!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lanzoni shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Eduardo but Eduardo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Eduardo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Eduardo scores with a crisp jab that stopped Lanzoni in his tracks.
Lanzoni shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Eduardo sprawls well. Eduardo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lanzoni gets slowly back to his feet.
Lanzoni tries to clinch but Eduardo moves out of range.
Lanzoni slips a jab from Eduardo.
A telegraphed right hand from Eduardo misses the target.
Lanzoni misses with a head kick.
Eduardo connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Lanzoni shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lanzoni trying to control the action but Eduardo is working from the bottom.

Eduardo pushes Lanzoni off looking to stand but Lanzoni dives back in and keeps control.
Eduardo is doing well to control the position and prevent Lanzoni from advancing to side control.
Eduardo is looking to escape.
Lanzoni is looking to stall here but Eduardo recovers full guard.
Lanzoni won't allow Eduardo to sweep him here.

Lanzoni decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Eduardo, up you get!

Eduardo closes the distance and pushes Lanzoni back into the cage.
Lanzoni can't break the clinch.

Lanzoni pulls guard successfully.
Eduardo stopping the sweep attempt from Lanzoni.
Eduardo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lanzoni. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lanzoni has a closed guard, preventing Eduardo from standing up.
Eduardo trying to control but Lanzoni is working from the bottom.
Eduardo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lanzoni is on top in guard.

Lanzoni postures up in Eduardo's guard and throws a big left but Eduardo blocks it.
Eduardo looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Lanzoni puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Eduardo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lanzoni trying to control the position from guard on top but Eduardo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Eduardo is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lanzoni is controlling him.

Lanzoni postures up.
Eduardo wants to sweep but no luck.
Lanzoni trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eduardo scores with a leg kick.
Sloppy strikes from Eduardo. Those never looked like landing.
Paulo Eduardo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Eduardo moves to clinch but Lanzoni breaks away

and Lanzoni counters with a nice double leg into side control. Eduardo won't be happy with that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Eduardo tries to bench press Lanzoni off him but Lanzoni keeps the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kevin Lanzoni will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Eduardo digs a good body shot into Lanzoni's ribs.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lanzoni.
Lanzoni shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Paulo Eduardo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eduardo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Lanzoni's head backwards.
Eduardo lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Eduardo jabs Lanzoni right on the nose. Lanzoni blinks but takes it well.


Lanzoni is rocked!
Lanzoni tries to clinch but Eduardo is having none of it.
Oh Lanzoni is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Eduardo looks to land a combination but Lanzoni avoids it well.
Eduardo scores with a push kick.
Lanzoni slips a jab and a cross from Eduardo.
Lanzoni seems to have got his legs back now.
Lanzoni fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Eduardo avoids it really well and circles away.
Horrible takedown by Lanzoni or perhaps it was just good defense by Eduardo which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Lanzoni. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A lazy left from Eduardo finds it's target.
Nice body punch from Eduardo.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Eduardo loads up on a big right hand but Lanzoni slips the punch.
Eduardo leaves Lanzoni with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Eduardo fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lanzoni, pushing him back against the cage.
Eduardo putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Lanzoni in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Eduardo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lanzoni pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Eduardo escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Eduardo misses with an uppercut. Lanzoni saw that one coming.
Eduardo throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A right-left combo lands from Eduardo.
Eduardo keeps the fight on the outside.
Lanzoni throws a head kick that misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Eduardo clinches with his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Eduardo has Lanzoni pushed against the cage.

Eduardo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Eduardo tries to clinch but Lanzoni moves out of range.
Kevin Lanzoni is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Eduardo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Eduardo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Lanzoni ducks under a wild hook from Eduardo.
Lanzoni walks into a stiff left hand from Eduardo.
Eduardo scores with a jab. Lanzoni acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Lanzoni changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Eduardo tries to avoid it but Lanzoni manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Eduardo to the ground. Eduardo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lanzoni tries to keep at a distance but Eduardo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Eduardo is pushing Lanzoni up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Lanzoni throws a punch but it's blocked by Eduardo.
Lanzoni changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Eduardo fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lanzoni on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
No joy there for Eduardo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lanzoni.
Eduardo avoids a kick to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eduardo lands a nice looking body shot.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Lanzoni crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Eduardo - the referee stops the clock and Lanzoni gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Eduardo. Lanzoni manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Eduardo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Lanzoni takes a knee to the side of the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Eduardo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Eduardo dips to his left and cracks Lanzoni with an uppercut!
Eduardo bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Lanzoni's head.

Eduardo has Lanzoni up against the cage in a clinch.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Eduardo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paulo Eduardo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Lanzoni tries to keep at a distance but Eduardo has taken the fight into the clinch.

Eduardo leaves Lanzoni with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Eduardo wants to clinch.
Eduardo jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Lanzoni dodges the punch combination from Eduardo.
Eduardo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Lanzoni tries to score with a low kick but Eduardo moves his leg out of the way.
Eduardo scores with a hook to the body. Lanzoni takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Eduardo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Lanzoni tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Eduardo breaks from the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Eduardo wants to clinch.
Lanzoni fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Lanzoni. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eduardo connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lanzoni's hands.
Lanzoni takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Lanzoni looks up at the clock. Bad move! Eduardo lands a right hand from hell, dropping Lanzoni. Eduardo pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paulo Eduardo!
In his post fight interview, Paulo Eduardo started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
