PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Angus MacKenzie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Machida might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Street fighter theme song by pennywise. Ryu Machida had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Angus MacKenzie!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacKenzie wants to clinch but Machida slips to the side
and Machida finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Machida throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by MacKenzie.

It looks like Angus MacKenzie has been cut.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from MacKenzie lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Machida has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Machida and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Machida is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in MacKenzie's half guard.
Machida tries to pass the half guard into mount. MacKenzie knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
MacKenzie pushes Machida off looking to stand but Machida dives back in and keeps control.
Machida not doing much here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Machida's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Machida stands up out of the half guard.
MacKenzie wants to clinch up but Machida keeps it at a distance.
Machida fails with the takedown.
MacKenzie tries to clinch but Machida moves away
and Machida counters with a nice uppercut.
Machida shoots in for a takedown but MacKenzie shows good takedown defense.
MacKenzie throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
MacKenzie wants to clinch up but Machida keeps it at a distance.
Machida circles away from the clinch attempt.

Machida shoots in and gets a takedown into MacKenzie's guard.
Machida won't allow MacKenzie to get back to his feet.
Machida lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Machida not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machida stops MacKenzie from standing up.
Machida keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of MacKenzie's head.
MacKenzie is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Machida is controlling him.
MacKenzie has momentary wrist control but Machida slips an elbow through the middle.

MacKenzie has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Machida off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Machida changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. MacKenzie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Machida thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
MacKenzie is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Machida is controlling him well.

Machida throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
MacKenzie wants to get back to his feet.
MacKenzie tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Machida takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Machida with shots to the head and body - MacKenzie looks very uncomfortable down there.

That's time! Machida's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

That has opened up Angus MacKenzie's cut even more.
Machida shoots in but no luck this time.

Machida has managed to clinch.
Machida drops down looking for an ankle pick but MacKenzie pulls his leg out and moves away.
Machida changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. MacKenzie tries to avoid it but Machida manages to keep hold of a leg and drag MacKenzie to the ground. MacKenzie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryu Machida. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machida shoots for a takedown but MacKenzie saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Machida circles away from the clinch attempt.
MacKenzie with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
MacKenzie is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
MacKenzie falls off balance throwing a combination
and Machida counters with a left and a right that stings MacKenzie.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
MacKenzie connects with a solid leg kick.
MacKenzie tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Machida decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in MacKenzie's guard.
MacKenzie is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Machida slips nicely into half guard.
MacKenzie wants to get back to his feet.
Machida scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Machida prevents MacKenzie from standing back up.

Machida decides to stand up.
MacKenzie tries to clinch there but Machida circles away.
Good exchange - MacKenzie coming out on top.
MacKenzie misses with a leg kick.

MacKenzie wants to stand up but Machida is controlling him.

Machida knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for MacKenzie on the ground.

Machida thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ryu Machida overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Machida passes into half guard.
MacKenzie won't allow Machida to pass to mount.

Machida is working hard here to advance position.
Machida not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Machida is trying to control. MacKenzie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
MacKenzie is in trouble now - Machida has advanced to mount!

Machida jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but MacKenzie manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
MacKenzie prevents Machida from improving position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

MacKenzie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Machida looks for a takedown but MacKenzie sprawls well.
MacKenzie moves to clinch but Machida breaks away

and Machida counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in MacKenzie's guard now.
MacKenzie is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Machida dives into side control.

Machida tries for a kimura but MacKenzie is defending well.
MacKenzie is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Machida has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Machida just content to control the position.

Machida grinds an elbow into MacKenzie's temple.
MacKenzie is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Machida asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Machida is looking to take a break and control but MacKenzie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

MacKenzie is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
MacKenzie takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Machida has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Machida postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. MacKenzie looks a forlorn figure.

The cut above Angus MacKenzie's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Angus MacKenzie's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

After winning the bout, Ryu Machida thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
