PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Garry Dupuis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Audet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dupuis's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Warriors Of Time by Black Tide. Audet comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Will.I.Am - T.H.E. kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Garry Dupuis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Garry Dupuis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Audet!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Audet gets tackled into the cage by Dupuis. Dupuis maintains the clinch.
Audet tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
A frustrated look appears on Dupuis's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Audet goes for a takedown in the clinch but Dupuis prevents it.

Audet has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Dupuis is trying to keep an underhook but Audet manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Audet looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dupuis with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Audet is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dupuis!
Audet tries to control but Dupuis wriggling away.
Audet misses with some ground and pound and Dupuis recovers position to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Audet scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Audet throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Audet is just content to waste time from the top position. Dupuis takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Audet trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Dupuis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Audet throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Audet throws a strike but Dupuis rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dupuis wants to pass the guard but Audet is keeping the position.
Dupuis's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Audet trying to strike off his back.

Audet is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dupuis defends well.

Dupuis trying to control but Audet is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dupuis distracts Audet with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Dupuis trying to control the position from guard on top but Audet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dupuis works over Audet with some ground and pound from guard.
Audet keeping full guard, as Dupuis tries to pass.
Dupuis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Audet's guard.
Dupuis stands and throws Audet's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Audet tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dupuis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Audet has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Dupuis working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Dupuis wants to control but Audet is keeping him busy.
Dupuis wants to take a breather but Audet manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Dupuis.

Dupuis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Audet manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dupuis has Audet in his guard.
Audet slips nicely into half guard.
Dupuis looks like he's trying to stand up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dupuis won't allow Audet to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nathan Audet will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dupuis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dupuis throws a right hand that Audet ducks under and follows up with a left that Audet also avoids with ease.
Audet tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dupuis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dupuis misses with a takedown attempt - Audet sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Audet tries to clinch but Dupuis is having none of it.

Audet clinches with his opponent.
Audet throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Dupuis blocks it with crossed arms.
Dupuis avoids a wild elbow strike from Audet.
Audet lands an elbow that stopped Dupuis in his tracks for a moment.

Dupuis jumps into guard, dragging Audet to the mat.
Nathan Audet has got the better of the ground game so far.
Audet with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Audet scoring with punches to the head and body.
Dupuis avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Audet is working Dupuis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Audet is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Dupuis keeping moving, preventing Audet from controlling successfully.
Audet throwing strikes from guard but Dupuis blocks nicely.
Audet lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Dupuis wants to stand but Audet is controlling the position.

Audet throws an elbow that misses. Dupuis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Audet's guard. Nice move by Dupuis!
Audet wants to sweep here but Dupuis controlling him for the moment.
Audet keeping moving, preventing Dupuis from controlling successfully.
Dupuis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Audet has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Dupuis is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Audet.
Audet takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Dupuis postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Audet tries to bench press Dupuis off him but Dupuis keeps the position.
Dupuis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Audet wants to control but Dupuis postures up.

Dupuis goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Audet rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dupuis's guard! Nice work there by Audet!

Dupuis utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Audet wants to control from the top but Dupuis keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Audet tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Dupuis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Audet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Audet shoots in but Dupuis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Dupuis dives in and grabs Audet's left leg, looking for a takedown. Audet pushes down on Dupuis's head and hops out.

Dupuis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Audet's half guard.
Audet has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dupuis is working away from the top position though.
Audet moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Audet is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dupuis is aware though and is defending well.

Audet controls Dupuis momentarily but Dupuis frees himself.

Audet pushes Dupuis off and scrambles back to his feet.

Audet is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dupuis is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Dupuis shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Audet as he jumps to the side.
Audet tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dupuis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Audet takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Audet doesn't manage to clinch there - Dupuis circles away.

Audet creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Audet lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Audet with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Garry Dupuis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Audet.

Audet takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Audet is stalling here. Dupuis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Audet seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dupuis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Dupuis drops back, looking for a kneebar! Audet looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Audet looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Audet!
Dupuis is trying to escape the position but Audet is controlling the position.
Audet wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dupuis keeps working.

Audet tries to advance to mount but Dupuis denies him.
Dupuis dodges the ground and pound from Audet.
Dupuis tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Audet sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Audet postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dupuis looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

I would just about give that final round to Nathan Audet.
I've got Audet winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
