PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Leonid Shcholkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Muter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shcholkin kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is King Ring. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leonid Shcholkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Muter!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Muter dodges the punch combination from Shcholkin.
Shcholkin misses with a takedown attempt - Muter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Muter tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Muter fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Shcholkin tries for a takedown but Muter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shcholkin misses with a few strikes there.
Muter throws a head kick that Shcholkin semi-blocks.
Danga de danga de dang - Shcholkin scores with a four punch combination!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Shcholkin wants to break free but Muter has control.

Muter has picked Shcholkin up - he's going for a ride! Muter dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Shcholkin is defending against the submission attempts here by Muter.

Shcholkin wants to get back to his feet.

Muter is trying to work for a kimura but Shcholkin is defending well.
Shcholkin pushes Muter off looking to stand but Muter dives back in and keeps control.
Muter content to control rather than advance.
Let's hope that Muter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Muter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Muter postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Shcholkin to stand up.
Shcholkin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Shcholkin tries to bum rush Muter with a series of wild strikes but Muter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Shcholkin walks into a jab.
A combination from Shcholkin does no damage.
Muter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Muter shoots in but no luck this time.
Muter tries for a takedown but Shcholkin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shcholkin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shcholkin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Muter's guard.
Shcholkin is breathing heavily.

Shcholkin has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Muter is proving hard to escape from.
Muter seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Muter has his feet on Shcholkin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Shcholkin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Muter circles away.

Muter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Muter.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Muter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Muter is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Muter throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Shcholkin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Muter but Muter pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Muter lands a leg kick that knocks Shcholkin off balance momentarily.
Muter throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Shcholkin sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Shcholkin gets a takedown into half guard.

Muter kicks off Shcholkin and gets to his feet.
Muter tries to clinch but Shcholkin moves out of range.
Shcholkin shoots in for a takedown but Muter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Muter gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Muter manages to break the clinch.

Muter moves into the clinch successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Muter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Shcholkin backwards.
Shcholkin gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Muter.

Shcholkin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Muter throws a quick inside leg kick.
Leonid Shcholkin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shcholkin tries to bum rush Muter with a series of wild strikes but Muter uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Muter scoring well with a low kick there.
Shcholkin stuffs the takedown.
Muter checks a leg kick.
Muter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shcholkin's waist but Shcholkin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Muter off to one side.
Leonid Shcholkin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Muter.

Muter pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Shcholkin back to the cage. Muter follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Muter scores with a decent looking hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shcholkin doesn't manage to clinch there - Muter circles away.
Muter slips a jab and a cross from Shcholkin.
Shcholkin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Muter lands a nice looking body kick.
Shcholkin misses with a series of wild punches.

Muter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Shcholkin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Shcholkin pushes Muter away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Muter gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Muter lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Shcholkin down.
A lull in the action here.
Alex Muter has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shcholkin looking for a sweep but Muter has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Shcholkin is bucking up trying to escape but Muter cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Muter is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Shcholkin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Shcholkin shrugs it off.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Muter tries to control but Shcholkin wriggling away.
Shcholkin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Muter on the ground.

Muter has hold of Shcholkin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Shcholkin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Muter content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Muter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Muter closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Shcholkin to the mat! Shcholkin manages to get full guard.

Shcholkin takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Muter swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Our winner, Alex Muter, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
