PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Tharis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Koscheck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tharis kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Burning down the house. Aaron Koscheck is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aaron Koscheck!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koscheck closes the distance and clinches up with Tharis, looking for a takedown. Koscheck pushes Tharis against the cage but Tharis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Tharis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Koscheck has hold of one of Tharis's legs. Tharis is fighting the takedown attempt but Koscheck gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

It looks like Aaron Koscheck has been cut.
Tharis using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Koscheck has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Koscheck circles away from the clinch attempt
and Koscheck cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Tharis doesn't manage to clinch there - Koscheck circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tharis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tharis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Koscheck.

Koscheck jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Tharis walks away with a smile on his face. Koscheck gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Koscheck dives in and grabs Tharis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tharis pushes down on Koscheck's head and hops out.

Tharis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Koscheck gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Tharis isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Koscheck stacks Tharis on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Koscheck!
Tharis manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tharis moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Koscheck has worked his arm free - good work by Koscheck!

Tharis tries to get to full guard but Koscheck has control of the leg.
Koscheck takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Koscheck stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tharis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I think Koscheck has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
