PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Daniels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcin Najman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Najman's choice of entrance music: Remember The Name. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcin Najman!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Najman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Najman throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Najman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Daniels moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Daniels wants to clinch up but Najman keeps it at a distance.
Najman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Daniels keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Najman throws a combination that misses

and Daniels counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Daniels wants the takedown. Najman is fighting it off but Daniels persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Najman's guard against the cage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Daniels is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Najman can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Daniels uses his free foot to push down on Najman's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Najman.

Daniels has picked Najman up - he's going for a ride! Daniels dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

We're going to have a standup here because Jay Daniels wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Najman tries to bum rush Daniels with a series of wild strikes but Daniels uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Najman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Daniels. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Najman is not content to let Daniels control the position.

Daniels is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Najman!

Jay Daniels overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Daniels has control of Najman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Najman regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Najman misses with the head strike.
Najman tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Daniels's elbow.
Daniels jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Najman walks away with a smile on his face. Daniels gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Najman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Daniels's guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Jay Daniels wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
No joy there for Najman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Daniels thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Najman's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Daniels is taking a breather. Najman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Daniels is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Najman to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Najman shrugs it off.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Daniels, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
