The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machida looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Machida throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Penagos lands with a nice body punch.
Machida throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Penagos on the side of the head.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Machida lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Penagos has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Penagos and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Horrible takedown by Machida or perhaps it was just good defense by Penagos which made him look bad.
Lyoto Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Penagos throws a nice looking combination but Machida bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Machida shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Penagos sprawls well. Penagos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Machida gets slowly back to his feet.

Penagos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Machida manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Penagos fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Machida has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Penagos throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Penagos is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Machida rather than just go for the knockout.
