Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Reis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reis comes to the cage accompanied by Blood Brothers. Silva has chosen Dropkick Murphys - "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Reis!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Antonio Silva!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in and drives through. Reis sprawls well.

Silva drives through with a takedown into guard.

Reis is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Reis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Silva drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Silva jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Reis is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Reis bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Silva's guard.
Reis trying to control but Silva is working from the bottom.
Silva looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reis is one step ahead there.
Silva is trying to control the position but Reis postures up.
Reis trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Reis is looking for a kimura here.

Reis wants to work for an arm triangle but Silva is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Silva trying to hold on to Reis's head to control him but Reis postures up.

Reis is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Silva has managed to free his arm - good work.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Reis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Silva is trying to maintain the position but Reis is very close to passing his half guard.

Reis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Silva is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Reis pulls his head out easily.

Reis seems to be working for a kimura but Silva defends the submission attempt.

Reis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Silva is pressing down on Reis's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Silva trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Silva throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.
Reis can't keep his opponent in guard - Silva advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Silva is looking to take a break and control but Reis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Silva moves into full mount! Reis won't be happy about that!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva wants to control the pace but Reis is squirming around nicely.

Silva working for a submission but Reis is keeping him at bay.
Silva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Reis is looking to escape.

Reis is looking to get to half guard.
Silva lands a heavy elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reis wants to hold on but Silva pushes him away.
Reis tries to reverse the position but Silva maintains control.

Silva looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Silva jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Reis is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Reis and Silva has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Reis is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Silva off and has taken his back!
Reis is trying to stick to Silva's back but Silva is turning into Reis. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Reis's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Silva.
Reis keeping full guard, as Silva tries to pass.
Silva slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Antonio Silva will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Reis throws a sloppy head kick and Silva moves out of range easily.

Silva changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Reis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Reis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Silva goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Reis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Silva but great work by Reis.

Reis tries for a kimura but Silva is defending well.
Silva tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Reis trying to control the action but Silva is working from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Reis is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Silva has escaped the position, nice work there.
Silva manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Silva manages to capitalize on a mistake by Reis to take his back!

Silva looking for the choke but no joy.
Reis breaks Silva's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Antonio Silva has got the better of the ground game so far.
Reis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Reis trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Reis tries to free his leg and advance position but Silva is retaining full guard.

Silva is looking for a triangle but Reis pushes his legs off easily.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Reis wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

Reis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Reis wants to stand but Silva has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Silva throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Reis drops back looking for a leg! Silva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Silva manages to kick Reis off! Reis jumps back into Silva's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A nice leg kick lands there from Reis.
Reis tries to close the distance and clinch but Silva swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Reis pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Reis shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Reis was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Reis fails to advance to Silva's back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Silva looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Reis trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Reis doesn't have the hooks in and Silva manages to turn into his guard.
Reis trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.
Silva trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Silva wants to control from the top but Reis keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Silva misses with an uppercut.
Silva shoots and misses

and Reis counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Silva!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rodrigo Reis will probably get the nod.
That's time! Reis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Reis throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Silva's head.
Reis has his takedown stuffed

and Silva counters with a single leg into guard. Reis didn't expect that.

Silva sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Reis doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Silva paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Reis - great work!
