PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Junior Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Baloney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rivera comes to the cage accompanied by Push it to the Limit - Rick Ross. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Junior Rivera!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tony Baloney!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baloney misses with a jab to the body
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Baloney looks to land a left hand but Rivera moved out of range nicely.
Rivera misses with a kick to the body.
Baloney misses with a series of wild punches.
Baloney is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Rivera.
Rivera scores with a hook to the body. Baloney takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Tony Baloney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That kick from Rivera tenderised Baloney's leg. Baloney is trying to keep his angry face on.

Rivera uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Baloney.
Baloney throws a right hand that Rivera ducks under and follows up with a left that Rivera also avoids with ease.
A nice leg kick lands there from Rivera.
Rivera slips a straight right by Baloney.
Rivera thows a body shot but no joy.
Rivera has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Baloney finds it's way round the side to connect with Rivera's head.

Rivera is looking to chop away at Baloney's legs.
Good leg kick by Rivera there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Baloney makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Rivera fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Baloney has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Baloney's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Rivera feints and then cracks Baloney's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Baloney down.
Baloney swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Baloney throws a lazy right hand but Rivera sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Baloney tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rivera was well out of range. Poor timing from Baloney.

Rivera closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rivera looks up at the clock and then as Baloney takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Rivera smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Baloney isn't going anywhere.
Rivera scores with a couple of short elbows.
Rivera is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Baloney will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Rivera is looking to take a break and control but Baloney is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baloney is looking to regain half guard here but Rivera keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Baloney wants to get back to his feet but Rivera drags him back down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Junior Rivera will probably get the nod.

Baloney ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rivera moves away.
Rivera takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Rivera closes the distance and clinches up with Baloney, looking for a takedown. Rivera pushes Baloney against the cage but Baloney circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Rivera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rivera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rivera wants to control from the top but Baloney keeps moving.
Baloney wants to stand and escape but Rivera is having none of it.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Rivera accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Baloney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rivera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Baloney looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Rivera puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Baloney is staying active underneath Rivera, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Rivera is trying to control. Baloney wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rivera uses his free foot to push down on Baloney's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Baloney.

Rivera is nestled in close to Baloney, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Rivera thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rivera working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Baloney is looking to control Rivera's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Baloney avoid being mounted?

Rivera is looking for a kimura but Baloney is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rivera to get the leverage.
Baloney tries to kick Rivera off but Rivera keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Baloney on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Junior Rivera dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rivera lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Baloney wants to break the clinch but can't.

Baloney takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Rivera obliges.

Rivera has Baloney pressed against the cage.
Baloney is still on wobbly legs! Can Rivera finish him?
Rivera jerks Baloney's head down, straight into the path of a devastating knee! Baloney drops to the floor in a crumpled heap! Rivera goes to throw a finishing haymaker but pulls out - good sportsmanship from Rivera because Baloney was completely out of it. That was a nice finish - just the right level of brutality to send everyone home happy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Junior Rivera!
