Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Holt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Holt has chosen Shipping Up To Boston - Dropkick Murphys as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Holt!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Holt gets a clinch.
Kelly is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Holt is keeping busy.

Holt has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Kelly uses from the top position.
Kelly won't allow Holt to sweep him here.
Holt keeping full guard, as Kelly tries to pass.
Kelly trying to control the position from guard on top but Holt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Holt looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kelly has picked Holt up and slammed him! Holt can't keep hold of the triangle and Kelly manages to pass to side control!

Kelly tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kelly has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Holt is not content to let Kelly control the position.
Holt is trying to work for a sweep but Kelly has mounted him!

Kelly avoids the attempt from Holt to control.
Kelly controlling the position easily from mount.
Holt sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Holt is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Holt wants to control but Kelly is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Holt looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Holt is not content to let Kelly control the position.
Holt manages to get to full guard.

Holt has an active guard here but Kelly has managed to pass into half guard.
Kelly trying to control from half guard but Holt is working away.
Still in half guard, Kelly seems content to control.

Kelly seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Holt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Holt wants to improve his position but Kelly is controlling well.
Kelly not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holt tries to roll over but Kelly keeps him under control.
Holt is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kelly's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kelly's back!

Holt is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Kelly turns into Holt and is now in his guard.

Holt working for submissions but it's allowed Kelly to get to half guard.

Holt is trying to get back to full guard.

A close round but James Holt will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Holt throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Holt shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kelly as he avoids it easily.

Holt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kelly's guard.
Kelly seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kelly keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Kelly is staying active underneath Holt, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kelly avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Holt.
Holt not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kelly gets caught flat footed, as Holt shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Holt wants to stand and escape but instead Kelly has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Holt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kelly uses it to pass to side control.

Kelly decides to stand back up. Kelly steps back and let's Holt get back to his feet.

Kelly gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kelly keeping moving, preventing Holt from controlling successfully.
Holt loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Holt stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kelly swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kelly looking to hit a scissor sweep but Holt is one step ahead there.

Holt distracts Kelly with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Holt throwing strikes from guard but Kelly blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Holt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Holt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holt is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Holt manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Holt wants to control but Kelly is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Holt moves into full guard.

Holt is looking for a triangle here but Kelly uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Holt looks to move to half guard but instead Kelly has passed into mount! Damn!
James Holt has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kelly working the ground and pound effectively.
Holt keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Holt is squirming around, avoiding Kelly's attempts to control the action.
Holt slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Still in half guard, Kelly seems content to control.

Holt is not content to let Kelly control the position.
Holt wants to improve his position but Kelly is controlling well.

Holt is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kelly is defending well though. Holt let's go of the attempt for now.
Holt is trying to stick to Kelly's back but Kelly is turning into Holt. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Holt's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kelly.

Kelly wants to control from the top but Holt keeps moving.

Holt wants to stand but Kelly is controlling the position.

Holt throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kelly uses it to pass to side control.
Kelly is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Holt's shoulder. That is not cool.
You can see the frustration on Holt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Holt is looking to reverse the position.
Jeff Kelly has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Holt wants to control but Kelly postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jeff Kelly.
I think Holt has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
