PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Piletich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wanderlei Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piletich comes to the cage accompanied by King of Kings. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Piletich!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Silva!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva fails with the takedown.
Silva uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Piletich.

Piletich shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.

Piletich drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Piletich is taking a breather. Silva says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Piletich prevents Silva from improving his position.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Silva has his foot on Piletich's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Piletich works his way back into a safe position though.

Piletich is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Piletich trying to control the position from guard on top but Silva is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Piletich gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Piletich stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Piletich stays in close to Silva's body and controls the position.
Silva is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Piletich content to stall in guard here.
Piletich seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Silva for as long as he can get away with.
Silva doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Silva pulls Piletich in close to prevent any damage.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Silva tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Silva has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Silva wants to lay and pray for a moment but Piletich keeps working.
