PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Geoffrey Spaulding (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brice Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Geoffrey Spaulding!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brice Armstrong!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Armstrong misses with a two punch combination.
Spaulding connects with a good right hand that stumbles Armstrong. Armstrong circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
The crowd cheers as Spaulding lands an impressive looking overhand right. Armstrong doesn't seem phased though.
Armstrong walks into a straight right hand from Spaulding.

Armstrong gets caught flat footed, as Spaulding shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Spaulding trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Spaulding preventing the sweep.

Armstrong has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Spaulding can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Spaulding trying to control but Armstrong is working from the bottom.
Spaulding pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Armstrong is keeping the position for now.
Spaulding is looking to work some ground and pound but Armstrong has wrist control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Armstrong shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Spaulding counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Armstrong thinking.
Armstrong looks gassed!
Spaulding getting the better of the striking in that exchange.

Spaulding shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Spaulding drops back looking for a leg! Armstrong is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Armstrong manages to kick Spaulding off! Spaulding jumps back into Armstrong's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Spaulding pushing down on Armstrong's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Spaulding passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Armstrong!

Spaulding has control of Armstrong's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Armstrong regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Armstrong is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Armstrong is squirming around, avoiding Spaulding's attempts to control the action.

Spaulding looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Spaulding wants to finish this one by submission but Armstrong is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Spaulding.

Spaulding working for a submission but Armstrong is keeping him at bay.

Spaulding can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Armstrong is looking to escape.

Spaulding is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Armstrong avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Spaulding fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Spaulding shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Armstrong but Armstrong pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Spaulding shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Armstrong counters with a right hand to the body.
Armstrong stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Geoffrey Spaulding. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Spaulding swats away the attempt to clinch by Armstrong.

Spaulding drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Spaulding content to stall in guard here.
Spaulding stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Armstrong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Spaulding decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Armstrong, up you get!
Spaulding looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Spaulding misses with a leg kick.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Spaulding, right into the meat.
A combination from Spaulding does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Geoffrey Spaulding dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Spaulding throws a leg kick which misses Armstrong's front leg but catches the back leg as Armstrong tries to avoid it.
Armstrong closes the distance but Spaulding moves to the side
and Spaulding counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Spaulding shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Armstrong but Armstrong pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Spaulding closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Spaulding wants to free his trapped foot but Armstrong is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Spaulding seems to be working for a kimura but Armstrong defends the submission attempt.
Armstrong is staying active underneath Spaulding, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Armstrong is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Armstrong actively working from the bottom here.

Spaulding is pressing down on Armstrong's thigh, looking to free his foot. Armstrong is holding on for now.
Spaulding is keen to just control but Armstrong is a slippery customer.

Armstrong looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Spaulding scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Armstrong tries to clinch up but Spaulding circles away and keeps his distance.
Spaulding throws a jab but it's blocked by Armstrong.
Geoffrey Spaulding seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Armstrong throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Spaulding counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Armstrong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Armstrong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Spaulding gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Spaulding trying to control but Armstrong is working from the bottom.

Armstrong working for a triangle but Spaulding defends it easily.

Spaulding drops back looking for a leg! Armstrong is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Armstrong manages to kick Spaulding off! Spaulding jumps back into Armstrong's guard.

Armstrong is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Spaulding advances to half guard.
Spaulding moves nicely into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spaulding wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Armstrong, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Spaulding tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Spaulding landing strikes.
Armstrong is not content to let Spaulding control the position.
Armstrong tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Spaulding moves into full mount!
Spaulding trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Armstrong is trying to reverse the position but instead Spaulding has taken his back - oops!

Spaulding is looking for the choke from the back position but Armstrong is controlling his hands well.

Spaulding is working for a rear naked choke. Armstrong is not defending it well and Spaulding has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Armstrong refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Armstrong's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Geoffrey Spaulding!
