PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Calvin King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tycho Kostopoulos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Calvin King has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Calvin King seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calvin King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tycho Kostopoulos!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kostopoulos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. King did well to prevent Kostopoulos getting side control.
King looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Kostopoulos wants to pass to mount but King is defending the position.

Kostopoulos takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tycho Kostopoulos wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kostopoulos shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kostopoulos showed some decent athleticism there.

Kostopoulos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks King with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kostopoulos looks to land a combination but King avoids it well.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Tycho Kostopoulos was stalling too much, according to the referee.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Tycho Kostopoulos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Kostopoulos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kostopoulos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Tycho Kostopoulos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Kostopoulos feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Kostopoulos not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Kostopoulos has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kostopoulos postures up in King's guard and throws a big left but King blocks it.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kostopoulos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tycho Kostopoulos wasn't active enough on the ground.

Kostopoulos throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. King tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kostopoulos is in King's guard.

Kostopoulos frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kostopoulos tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King blocking the ground and pound.

Kostopoulos controlling the pace for now.
Tycho Kostopoulos is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

King takes a body punch but keeps moving.
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kostopoulos fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging King to the ground. Kostopoulos is now in King's guard.
Calvin King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kostopoulos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tycho Kostopoulos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kostopoulos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
