The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva closes the distance but Permitis moves to the side

and Permitis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Silva's guard.
Permitis controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Permitis wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.
Permitis wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Permitis forces his way into half guard.

Permitis is looking for a kimura but Silva is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Permitis to get the leverage.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Permitis wants to take a breather but Silva is having none of it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Permitis stops Silva from getting back to his feet.
Permitis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Permitis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Silva is just riding it out for now. Permitis eventually gives up the hold.
Permitis wants to free his trapped foot but Silva is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Permitis moves nicely into side control.
