Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tatsuya Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joel Kuokkanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kuokkanen has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Joel Kuokkanen has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tatsuya Gomi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joel Kuokkanen!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kuokkanen is working an open guard so Gomi takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Gomi counters by moving into the clinch.

Gomi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tatsuya Gomi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joel Kuokkanen.

Gomi rushes Kuokkanen and presses him up against the cage.

Gomi manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gomi is on top in guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kuokkanen shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Gomi wants the takedown. Kuokkanen is fighting it off but Gomi persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kuokkanen's guard against the cage.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Gomi here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Gomi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Kuokkanen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gomi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kuokkanen has Gomi in his guard.

Tatsuya Gomi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gomi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
