PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vadim Vovchyn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joeseph Michael (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Vadim Vovchyn has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Vadim Vovchyn seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Joeseph Michael!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vovchyn fails with the takedown.
Michael connects with a body shot.
Nice sprawl there from Michael as Vovchyn shoots in.
Michael tries to clinch but Vovchyn moves out of range.
Vovchyn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Michael swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vadim Vovchyn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Michael tries to clinch up.

Michael keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Vovchyn uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Michael.
No luck for Vovchyn with that takedown attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Michael thows a body shot but no joy.
Michael doesn't manage to clinch there - Vovchyn circles away.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Vovchyn.
Michael really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vovchyn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Michael's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Vovchyn working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Michael is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Michael gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Vovchyn looking to secure an arm triangle but Michael defends it well.
Michael can't escape the position.

Vovchyn working for a submission but Michael is keeping him at bay.
Michael is looking to improve his position but Vovchyn isn't that keen on the idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vovchyn working for a guillotine from mount but Michael is in no mood to give up.
Vovchyn is breathing heavily.

Michael tries to hold on but Vovchyn postures up.

Vovchyn has hold of Michael's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Michael manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Vovchyn looking to ground and pound but Michael is blocking nicely.
Michael is trying to escape the mount.

Vovchyn is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Michael has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Michael tries to clinch there but Vovchyn circles away.
Vovchyn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Michael but Michael pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vovchyn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Michael tries to avoid it but Vovchyn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Michael to the ground. Michael escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Vovchyn shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vadim Vovchyn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vovchyn fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Vovchyn shoots in and drives through. Michael sprawls well.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Vovchyn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Vovchyn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Danga de danga de dang - Michael scores with a four punch combination!

Michael fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Vovchyn looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vovchyn.
Vovchyn shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Michael but Michael pushes him off and we're back to square one.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Michael tries to close the distance and clinch but Vovchyn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Vovchyn shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vovchyn showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vovchyn is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Michael is looking for a sweep. Vovchyn is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Vovchyn is thwarting Michael's attempts to control the position.

Vovchyn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Michael moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Michael is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vovchyn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Michael swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Vovchyn is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Michael wants to get back to his feet but Vovchyn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joeseph Michael showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Vovchyn tries for a takedown but Michael sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Michael wants to clinch up but Vovchyn keeps it at a distance.
Vovchyn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Vovchyn closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vovchyn lands in his opponent's guard.

Vovchyn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Michael is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Vovchyn asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Vovchyn wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Michael, who protects the arm well.
Michael can't do much from the bottom here.
Michael might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Vovchyn kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Vovchyn is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Michael has escaped the position, nice work there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vovchyn is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Michael knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Vovchyn tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vovchyn has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Michael tries to buck Vovchyn off but Vovchyn is having none of it.
Michael is pushing Vovchyn's head away, looking to escape. Vovchyn manages to hold on to the position though.

Vovchyn looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vovchyn swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
