PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Zew Whoosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Woo's choice of entrance music: Papercut. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zew Whoosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jin Woo!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whoosh throws out a loose jab but Woo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Whoosh throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Woo's waist but Woo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Whoosh off to one side.
Woo misses with a wild body shot.
Whoosh fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Woo fails to land the takedown.
Woo scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Woo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Whoosh avoids it really well and circles away.
Whoosh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Woo.
Jin Woo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Whoosh gets the takedown into side control.
Whoosh fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Woo is not content to let Whoosh control the position.
Woo wants to control but Whoosh postures up.

Whoosh throws an elbow but Woo slips to the side and avoids it well.
Woo gets back to half guard.
Whoosh not doing much here.

Whoosh stands up and beckons Woo to join him on the feet.

Woo throws a head kick that misses.
Woo tries to bum rush Whoosh with a series of wild strikes but Whoosh uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Whoosh throws a leg kick but Woo sees it coming and moves out of range.

Whoosh shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woo is trying to control but can't.
Woo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Whoosh kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Whoosh scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Whoosh misses with a head shot. Woo uses the momentum to regain guard.
Whoosh trying to control but Woo is working from the bottom.

Whoosh stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Whoosh shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Woo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Woo keeping moving, preventing Whoosh from controlling successfully.
Whoosh is looking to work some ground and pound but Woo has wrist control.

Woo lands with a cross.
Whoosh will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Whoosh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Woo to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Woo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Whoosh wriggles free and stands up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Woo shoots in but Whoosh avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Zew Whoosh has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jin Woo.
Whoosh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Woo as he avoids it easily.
Woo tries to close the distance and clinch but Whoosh swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Whoosh shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Woo sprawls well. Woo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Whoosh gets slowly back to his feet.
Whoosh circles away from the clinch attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Woo scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Horrible takedown by Woo or perhaps it was just good defense by Whoosh which made him look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zew Whoosh dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Woo tries to clinch there but Whoosh circles away.

Woo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Woo throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Whoosh avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Woo.
Woo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Whoosh kicks Woo off and gets back to his feet.
Whoosh swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Woo fails in his attempt to clinch.
A good leg kick by Woo.
Woo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Woo moves in looking to clinch but Whoosh pushes him off.
Woo throws a right and a left that Whoosh avoids nicely.
Woo shoots in looking for a takedown but Whoosh manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Woo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Woo lands a nice shot that snaps Whoosh's head back.

Whoosh shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Woo as he jumps to the side.

Woo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Whoosh slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Woo wants to stand but Whoosh is controlling the position.
Woo working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Whoosh.

Whoosh stands and steps away. Woo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Nice takedown defense from Whoosh. No joy for Woo on that attempt.

Woo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Whoosh wants to stand and escape but instead Woo has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Woo looks to land a combination but Whoosh avoids it well.

Whoosh throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Woo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Whoosh is in Woo's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Whoosh trying to control the position from guard on top but Woo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Whoosh looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Woo is fending him off so far but Whoosh persists. Nope, Woo circles away and we're back to standing.

Whoosh rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Woo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Whoosh misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

enabling Woo to counter with a crisp jab.
Whoosh showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Woo.
Whoosh avoids a kick to the body.
Woo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Whoosh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Woo.

Woo misses with a jab, cross combination.

Woo tries to sprawl but Whoosh drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Whoosh seems content to control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Whoosh not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Woo wants to control but Whoosh is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Woo makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Woo.
Whoosh wants to control from the top but Woo keeps moving.
Whoosh throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Whoosh wants to stand but Woo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Whoosh postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Woo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Whoosh looking to sit in guard and control but Woo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Woo stops Whoosh from standing up.

Woo is looking to stand up but Whoosh won't let him.

Whoosh is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Woo dives into side control.
Whoosh is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Woo asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Jin Woo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Whoosh on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Whoosh tries to get out of the position.
Sloppy strikes there by Woo.
Zew Whoosh overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Whoosh taking a bit of punishment here - Woo scoring with strikes.
Zew Whoosh is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Woo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Whoosh pushes Woo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Woo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Woo lands a few punches from side control.
Woo postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Woo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Whoosh is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Woo passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Whoosh!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Woo raining down shots from the mount!
You get the feeling that Whoosh really doesn't like being in this position too much.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jin Woo.
I think Whoosh has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
