PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shane Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esko Takanen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Esko Takanen!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Takanen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jackson moves away.
Takanen walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Jackson checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Takanen throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Jackson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Jackson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Takanen ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Takanen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Jackson lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Jackson dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Jackson clobbers Takanen with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Jackson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Takanen tries to get to full guard but Jackson has control of the leg.

Jackson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Takanen manages to get to full guard.
Takanen is trying to control the position but Jackson postures up.

Jackson throws an elbow that misses. Takanen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jackson's guard. Nice move by Takanen!

Jackson is trying to maintain the position but Takanen is very close to passing his half guard.
Takanen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jackson!

Jackson is squirming around, avoiding Takanen's attempts to control the action.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jackson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shane Jackson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Jackson takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jackson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jackson connects with a body shot that sends Takanen's belly button to the back.
Takanen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jackson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Takanen to score with a decent uppercut.

Takanen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jackson moves away.
Jackson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Takanen is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Jackson rather than just go for the knockout.
Takanen uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Jackson has time to react.
Jackson throws the kick towards the body but Takanen avoids it.
Takanen looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jackson moves out of range of the leg kick from Takanen.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Takanen.
Takanen is looking to slow Jackson down with leg kicks.

Jackson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jackson lands in his opponent's guard.

Takanen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jackson manages to get himself to full guard.

Takanen is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Jackson pulls Takanen in close to prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Esko Takanen was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Takanen comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Jackson misses the target.
Esko Takanen seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Takanen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Jackson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Nice uppercut lands for Jackson. That snapped Takanen's head back.
Jackson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Takanen sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Takanen throws a low kick but Jackson avoids it.

Takanen lands a slapping body shot.
Sloppy strikes from Takanen. Those never looked like landing.
Jackson lands with an overhand left.
Takanen checks a leg kick.
Takanen misses with a body kick.
Takanen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jackson was well out of range. Poor timing from Takanen.
Jackson tries to land a leg kick but Takanen saw it coming and moves away.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Takanen tries a low kick but Jackson avoids it.
Jackson tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Takanen is able to avoid easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Esko Takanen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Shane Jackson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Takanen wants to stand but Jackson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Esko Takanen was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jackson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
