PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quentin Cane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ellis comes to the cage accompanied by Avril Lavigne - Hot. Cane has chosen Rob Zombie - What as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Anthony Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Quentin Cane!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Dean Styles and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ellis misses the body punch

and Cane counters with a takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Cane thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cane wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ellis, who protects the arm well.
Ellis is looking for a sweep.

Cane tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cane has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ellis sneaks back into half guard.

Cane is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Ellis still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Ellis has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Cane manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Ellis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ellis wants it to stay on the feet.

and Cane decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ellis's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ellis pulls Cane in close to prevent any damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cane wants to pass the guard but Ellis is keeping the position.

Cane drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ellis dives on top into guard.

Ellis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cane keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Anthony Ellis wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Cane looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ellis is fending him off so far but Cane persists. Nope, Ellis circles away and we're back to standing.
Cane tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ellis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cane somewhat.
Anthony Ellis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Quentin Cane.

Cane shoots in looking for a takedown but Ellis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Horrible takedown by Cane or perhaps it was just good defense by Ellis which made him look bad.
Cane is breathing heavily.

Quentin Cane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Ellis scores with a hook to the body. Cane takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Ellis tries to bum rush Cane with a series of wild strikes but Cane uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Ellis connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cane. Cane circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Ellis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cane was well out of range. Poor timing from Ellis.
Cane shoots in for a takedown but Ellis shows good takedown defense.

Ellis dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Quentin Cane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Cane fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ellis avoids it really well and circles away.

No joy there for Ellis, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Ellis leaves Cane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ellis lands with a thumping leg kick.
Cane misses with a takedown attempt - Ellis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Cane uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ellis.

Cane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ellis looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Ellis dodges the ground and pound from Cane.
Cane sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ellis is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The strikes coming from Cane are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
