PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Spinbob Cantrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richter Alastrasz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cantrell comes to the cage accompanied by Scorpions - Winds of Change. On his way into the cage it seems that Spinbob Cantrell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Spinbob Cantrell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Spinbob Cantrell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Richter Alastrasz!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alastrasz missing with a left hand there. Cantrell was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Cantrell throws a body kick that misses.
Alastrasz misses with a wild body shot.
The crowd cheers as Cantrell lands an impressive looking overhand right. Alastrasz doesn't seem phased though.
Alastrasz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cantrell.
Alastrasz lands with an overhand left.
Alastrasz looks to land a left hand but Cantrell moved out of range nicely.
Cantrell tries to clinch but Alastrasz moves out of range.
Cantrell lands with a nice body kick.
Alastrasz misses with a looping left.
Cantrell misses with a looping right.
Cantrell throws a hook but Alastrasz blocks it.
Alastrasz avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Cantrell wants to clinch.
Cantrell motions for Alastrasz to come forward. Cantrell throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Alastrasz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cantrell.
Spinbob Cantrell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Cantrell finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Alastrasz just misses with a punch to the body.
Cantrell goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Cantrell avoids the body shot from Alastrasz.
Cantrell is looking to clinch but Alastrasz is avoiding it.
Cantrell takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Alastrasz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cantrell tries to buck Alastrasz off but Alastrasz is having none of it.

Cantrell has one of Alastrasz's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Cantrell is trying to control Alastrasz's posture but Alastrasz avoids it.

Alastrasz creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Cantrell tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Alastrasz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Alastrasz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cantrell keeps working.

Alastrasz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cantrell knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

You can see the frustration on Cantrell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Cantrell stops Alastrasz from passing to mount.
Alastrasz looks up at the clock and then as Cantrell takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alastrasz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Alastrasz working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cantrell wants to control but Alastrasz postures up.
Alastrasz throwing shots but missing, from side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cantrell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Richter Alastrasz dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Alastrasz takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Alastrasz ducks under a wild hook from Cantrell.

Alastrasz just misses with a punch to the body.
Alastrasz takes a swing at Cantrell's ribcage but misses.
Alastrasz throws a jab but it's blocked by Cantrell.
Cantrell connects with a nice looking jab.
Alastrasz throws an overhand right that lands on Cantrell's shoulder, as Cantrell tries to avoid the shot.
Alastrasz moves out of range of the body kick from Cantrell.
Cantrell avoids the body shot from Alastrasz.
An inside leg kick from Alastrasz misses.
Alastrasz moves out of range of the body kick from Cantrell.
Cantrell steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Alastrasz.

Alastrasz closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Alastrasz has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cantrell is looking to improve his position.

Alastrasz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cantrell defends it well.

Cantrell is in a horrible position here. Alastrasz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Alastrasz is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Cantrell has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Cantrell!
Alastrasz has his hands on Cantrell's head, controlling the position.
Cantrell's corner is telling him to maintain position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alastrasz is on top in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alastrasz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Alastrasz distracts Cantrell with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Cantrell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Alastrasz cracks Cantrell with a big elbow.

Alastrasz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Cantrell seems a little lost for a moment, as Alastrasz dominates the positioning.
Cantrell takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Alastrasz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cantrell sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Cantrell controls Alastrasz momentarily but Alastrasz frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alastrasz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cantrell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Richter Alastrasz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A slow jab from Alastrasz misses its intended target.
Alastrasz lands with an overhand left.
Alastrasz walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Some bone on bone action there as Alastrasz checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Alastrasz swats away the attempt to clinch by Cantrell.
Cantrell sizes up Alastrasz with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

The fight stays on the outside here - Cantrell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cantrell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Alastrasz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cantrell.
Alastrasz misses with an uppercut. Cantrell saw that one coming.

Alastrasz takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Cantrell looks for the body kick but Alastrasz saw that one coming.
Alastrasz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Alastrasz throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Alastrasz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cantrell can pounce on him.

Spinbob Cantrell is winning the standup battle so far.
Cantrell slaps away a takedown attempt from Alastrasz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Cantrell lands a right hook to the body.
Alastrasz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cantrell was well out of range. Poor timing from Alastrasz.
Cantrell throws a push kick but Alastrasz slaps the foot to one side.
Spinbob Cantrell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Alastrasz moves out of range of the body kick.
Cantrell moves out of range as Alastrasz strikes.
Cantrell looks to score with a jab to the body but Alastrasz is just out of range.

Alastrasz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cantrell but Cantrell pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Alastrasz on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Cantrell. Cantrell obviously looking to wear him down.
Cantrell looks to land a left hand but Alastrasz moved out of range nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A jab lands there for Cantrell.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Alastrasz, as that shot connected.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Cantrell.
Cantrell throws a low kick but Alastrasz moves out of range easily.

Alastrasz throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cantrell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Alastrasz is in Cantrell's guard.

Cantrell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cantrell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Alastrasz is working away from the top position though.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Cantrell is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Alastrasz avoids the body shot from Cantrell.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
