Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lander Plast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eric Shields has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lander Plast!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eric Shields!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plast misses with a takedown

and Shields counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Shields scoring with some ground and pound.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Plast has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shields can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Shields slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Shields lands a couple of digs.

Plast has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Shields wants to control from the top but Plast keeps moving.

Plast working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shields doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shields manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Shields keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Plast's head.
Plast avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Shields got a little sloppy there for a moment and Plast has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Shields has managed to get both his arms back between Plast's legs - danger averted.
Shields tries to free his leg and advance position but Plast is retaining full guard.

Plast looking for a guillotine here but Shields defends easily.
Shields passes Plast's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Shields is looking for a kimura but Plast is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shields to get the leverage.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shields lands a nice short elbow.

Plast is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shields pulls his head out easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Plast with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shields is trying to control the action in half guard but Plast is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Shields is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Plast is rocked!

Oh Plast is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shields is nestled in close to Plast, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shields uses his free foot to push down on Plast's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Plast.
Shields cracks Plast with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eric Shields!
