PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dolby Dames (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tantric Yogi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dames comes to the cage accompanied by Deep In The Heart Of Texas Song . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dolby Dames!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tantric Yogi!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yogi moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Dames throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Yogi counters with a thumping low kick.
Yogi throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Dames missing with a left hand there. Yogi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Yogi delivers a nice body kick.
Dames swings widly with a right hand
and Yogi counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Dolby Dames has been cut.

Yogi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Dames moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Yogi tries to free his leg and advance position but Dames is retaining full guard.
Dames pulls Yogi in close to his closed guard and prevents Yogi from doing any damage or advancing position.

Yogi trying to control the position from guard on top but Dames is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dames trying to keep a closed guard but Yogi is proving a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yogi won't allow Dames to sweep him here.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dames uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yogi.
Yogi fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Dames.
Dames misses the jab.
Yogi scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Yogi dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Dames. That did some damage!
Dames connects with a looping right hand.

Yogi looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dames managing to control the position.
Dames avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Yogi throws a big right hand that misses.
Yogi stands and throws Dames's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dames is trying to improve his position.
Yogi with the ground and pound but Dames regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Yogi passes to full mount!

Yogi sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Dames has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Yogi's lack of action.
Dames is trying to control but can't.
Dames preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Dames trying to control but Yogi postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dames is looking for a sweep. Yogi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dames is doing well to control the position and prevent Yogi from advancing to side control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dames manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Dames pulls Yogi in to control the position.

Dames working for a triangle but Yogi defends it easily.
Dames preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Dames had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yogi defends it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yogi looking to sit in guard and control but Dames gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dames cracks Yogi with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Yogi ducks under a wild hook from Dames.
A jab from Yogi misses.
Dames looks to land a left hand but Yogi moved out of range nicely.
The fighters circling - Dames throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Tantric Yogi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yogi throws a jab when Dames was well out of range.
Dames defending well as Yogi loads up on a big left hand.
Yogi moves away from the strike by Dames.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dames.
Yogi misses with a low kick.

Dames moves out of range of the leg kick from Yogi.
Yogi cracks Dames with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Dames misses with a lunging right hand
and Yogi counters with a good low kick that Dames was not able to check.

Tantric Yogi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dames. Yogi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Yogi fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Dames throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Yogi to counter with a crisp jab.
Decent striking displayed by Yogi there.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Yogi - that will leave a mark!
Yogi with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Dames is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Yogi connects with a leg kick. Dames looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dames enables Yogi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dames manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Yogi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Dames preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Dames looking for a sweep. Not yet Dames, not yet.
Dames will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Dames seems keen to control Yogi's posture.
Yogi keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Dames's head.
Yogi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Dames looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dames is controlling Yogi's posture.
Dames not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dolby Dames.
Yogi throws a quick inside leg kick.
Dames misses with a hook.
Dames misses with an uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Dames on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Yogi. Yogi obviously looking to wear him down.
Dames is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dames forces Yogi back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dames on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Dames can't find room to land a body shot as Yogi controls the action.
A short right from Dames on the inside.
Yogi blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tantric Yogi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Dames closes the distance and clinches.
Yogi trying to control the position but instead, Dames has worked for underhooks and has pushed Yogi into the cage.

Yogi jumps into guard, dragging Dames to the mat.
Yogi tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dames seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Yogi wants to hit a switch here but Dames passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Yogi there!
Dames trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Dames goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Yogi turns into him and now he's in Dames's guard.

Yogi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Yogi content to stall in guard here.

Dames lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Yogi!
Dames content just to control the position here.
Dames looking to control but Yogi is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Dames goes for an armbar but Yogi turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Yogi.
Dolby Dames has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dames wants to sweep but no luck.
Yogi looking to sit in guard and control but Dames gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dames wants to control from the top but Yogi keeps moving.
Yogi is trying to keep Dames in close.
Yogi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dames kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Tantric Yogi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Dames trying to control the position from guard on top but Yogi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Yogi is trying to keep Dames in close.
Dames stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yogi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dames lands a nice shot to the body.
Dames throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Yogi counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dames is lucky that one didn't land flush.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Yogi takes one on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Dames on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dolby Dames showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Yogi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
