PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Howard King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Max (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Howard King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Karl Max!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King takes a jab right on the kisser.
King shoots in for a double leg but Max sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Max is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by King.
Max lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from King.
King ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Max misses with a straight left.
Horrible takedown by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Max which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Howard King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Max avoids it really well and circles away.
King throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Max's waist but Max gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing King off to one side.
Howard King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Max throws a hook but King blocks it.
King slips a straight right by Max.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Max with a hook.
King uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Max.
Max is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Max misses with a hook.
Max might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Max connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
King moves away from the strike by Max.
Max looks to throw the jab but King is out of range.
Max throws a hook but King blocks it.
Max thuds a left hand into King's body.
King is breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Max waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract King.
Max should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Max throws a hook to the side of King's head but King sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from King is defended easily by Max.
Max throws a jab but it's blocked by King.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King moves out of range as Max strikes.
King throws a head kick but Max moves out of range.
King ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
King slips a jab from Max.
King gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Max.
Max throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Max ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Max catches King with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Max lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.


King is rocked!

Max drops King with a big left hand and mounts him. King is in big trouble!
Oh King is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Max controlling his opponent.
Poor strikes thrown by Max there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Max takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
King seems to have got his legs back now.
Let's hope that Max has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Max looking to control but King is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Max controlling from mount.
King tries to hold on but Max pushes him away.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Karl Max wasn't active enough on the ground.
Max scores with a crisp jab that stopped King in his tracks.
Max lands a nice looking body shot.
Max bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps King's head backwards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Max misses with an uppercut. King saw that one coming.
King shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Max defends it nicely.
Max stuns King with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Max misses with a looping left.
King uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Max.
A slow jab from Max misses its intended target.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
King takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Max misses with an uppercut.
Max waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract King.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Max dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Max loads up on a big right hand but King slips the punch.
King tries to move into range but Max moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Max feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kings jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
King shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Max defends it nicely.
Howard King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Max cracks King with a right hand to the side of the head.

King rushes Max and presses him up against the cage.
Max has a couple of punches blocked by King.

King manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
King keeping moving, preventing Max from controlling successfully.

King has his feet on Max's thighs here. He's pushed Max off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Max screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Howard King!
