The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard throws a hook to the side of Steel's head but Steel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Steel counters with a nice double leg into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Steel prevents Maynard from getting back to his feet.
Maynard avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Steel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maynard works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Steel cracks Maynard with a solid left hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steel postures up in Maynard's guard and throws a big left but Maynard blocks it.
Steel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Maynard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Steel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Steel shoots in looking for a takedown. Maynard tries to sprawl out of it but Steel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Maynard manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Terry Maynard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Norman Steel.
Maynard displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Steel.
Steel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maynard but Maynard pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Steel slows the pace down in half guard.
Steel uses his free foot to push down on Maynard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Maynard.
The referee warns Maynard that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.


It looks like Terry Maynard has been cut.
