The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush throws a shot to the body.

Rush gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Paraiba to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Paraiba trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Paraiba wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.
Rush tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rush is trying to control the position but Paraiba postures up.
Paraiba trying to control but Rush is working from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rush tries to close the distance and clinch but Paraiba swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Paraiba counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Paraiba looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
It looks like Paraiba might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Rush can't keep his opponent in guard - Paraiba advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Paraiba wants to take a breather but Rush is having none of it.

Paraiba is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rush has managed to free his arm - good work.
Rush gets back to full guard.
Paraiba trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Paraiba working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rush controls Paraiba momentarily but Paraiba frees himself.
Rush manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Paraiba manages to get himself to full guard.

Paraiba is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Rush frees his head nicely. Oh but Paraiba has switched to an armbar! Rush is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
