PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Simon Says (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Simon Says!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeremy King!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Says tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Says to the ground. Says escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Says instigates a clinch.
Says gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from King.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by King as Says tries to tie him up.
King jumps guard but Says turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Simon Says has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy King.
A frustrated look appears on Says's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Says tries to land knees in the clinch but King avoids the damage to the body.
Says lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Says stops a takedown attempt from King.
Says landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

Says breaks from the clinch.
No luck for King with that takedown attempt.

Says pushes King up against the cage in a clinch.
Says stalling against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Says throws a knee to the head but misses.
King tries to pull guard but Says won't allow it.
King has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Says avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Says jumps into guard, dragging King to the mat.
King sitting in guard, not really doing much.

King got a little sloppy there for a moment and Says has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, King has managed to get both his arms back between Says's legs - danger averted.
King must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
King trying to control but Says is working from the bottom.
King looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Says is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Says looking for a sweep. Not yet Says, not yet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jeremy King wasn't active enough on the ground.
Says is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Says closes the distance looking to clinch
and King counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
King missing with a left hand there. Says was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Says tries to close the distance and clinch up but King swats him away and circles back towards the center.

King looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
King is trying to control the action in half guard but Says is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
King throwing shots but Says is blocking nicely.
Says pushes King off looking to stand but King dives back in and keeps control.
Says trying to control here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King is taking a breather. Says says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Says is looking to clinch.
Says tries to clinch there but King circles away.

Says has taken the fight to the clinch.
Says has had enough of the clinch but King keeps him there for the moment.
King is looking to take this one to the mat.
King drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Says gets the underhooks and prevents it.
King wants a takedown but no success here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King tries to pull guard but Says won't allow it.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Says turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Says manages to end up in side control.
Says throws a strike aimed at the side of King's head but King avoids it well.

Says is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, King has escaped the position, nice work there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Says sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but King is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Says thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Says is looking to take a break and control but King is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Says dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Says moves in looking to clinch but King pushes him off.

King closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Says to the mat! Says manages to get full guard.
King wants to control from the top but Says keeps moving.
Says controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Says looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
King chips away with some ground and pound.

King sitting in guard, not really doing much.
King lands a couple of decent looking shots.
King slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
King wants to control from the top but Says keeps moving.
Says controls King momentarily but King frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jeremy King has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

King shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Says is in a horrible position here. King smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King scores with a couple of good head shots there.
King controlling from mount.
Says in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
King avoids the attempt from Says to control.
Says tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King tries to control but Says wriggling away.
King avoids the attempt from Says to control.
King content just to control the position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

King looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Says is bucking up trying to escape but King cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
King is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Says can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Says wants to control but King is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
King takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeremy King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Says stuffs the takedown.

King shoots in and bounces Says off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Says gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
King is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Says in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Says wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.

Says trying to move into half guard but instead King has managed to sweep!
King wants to control from the top but Says keeps moving.
Says can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as King controls the pace.
King wants to pass the guard but Says is keeping the position.
King is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jeremy King.
Says tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but King paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Says defends well against a solid takedown attempt from King.
Says fails in his attempt to clinch.
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Says avoids it really well and circles away.
Simon Says has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy King.
Says tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Simon Says is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Says shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
King is refusing to be controlled, as Says sits in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King tries to roll over but Says keeps him under control.
Says missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Says is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Says to get the leverage.

Says is working for a submission of some sort.
Says missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
King has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Says is working away from the top position though.
Says trying to mount his opponent but King defends it.
King is pressing down on Says's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Says being controlled here momentarily.
King preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jeremy King.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
