PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sami Holmes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sami Holmes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chris Paul!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holmes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A jab lands there for Holmes.
Paul shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Holmes but Holmes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Holmes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Paul avoids it really well and circles away.
Holmes dives in and grabs Paul's left leg, looking for a takedown. Paul pushes down on Holmes's head and hops out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Holmes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sami Holmes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A punch combination from Holmes misses.
Holmes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Holmes misses with a takedown attempt - Paul sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Paul pushes Holmes up against the cage in a clinch.

Holmes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Paul pulls his leg out and moves away.
Holmes is looking to slow Paul down with leg kicks.

Paul closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Holmes's guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Paul stays in close to Holmes's body and controls the position.

Holmes wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Paul with a flurry of punches that miss.
Holmes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Paul on the ground.

Paul stands up from Holmes's guard - Paul perhaps looking for a knockout.
Nice takedown defense from Paul. No joy for Holmes on that attempt.
Paul fails with a takedown attempt.

Holmes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chris Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paul manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Holmes on his heels. He'll look to pass Holmes's guard now, I'm sure.
Paul slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Holmes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Paul swivels and escapes.
Paul shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Holmes as he avoids it easily.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Paul tries to bum rush Holmes with a series of wild strikes but Holmes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Holmes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Holmes wants to stand but Paul is controlling the position.
Holmes controls Paul momentarily but Paul frees himself.
Paul loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Paul has managed to clinch.

Paul jumps into guard, dragging Holmes to the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Holmes stands up and waves to Paul to follow him.
Holmes shoots in looking for a takedown but Paul manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Holmes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Holmes blocks a leg kick.
Holmes shoots in but no luck this time.
Paul shoots in looking for a takedown but Holmes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Paul's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Paul gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Paul gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Holmes is not content to let Paul control the position.
Paul is pressing down on Holmes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Holmes is holding on for now.

Paul decides to stand back up. Paul steps back and let's Holmes get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Paul drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Holmes blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Paul showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Paul's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris Paul hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Paul shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Holmes pinned against the cage. Holmes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Holmes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Holmes enables Paul to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Holmes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Chris Paul is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
