Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rusty Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jamal Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jamal Russell struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 266.6lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jamal Russell!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brooks gets a takedown into half guard.
Brooks wants to advance to full mount but Russell doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Russell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Brooks wants to stand but Russell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Brooks is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Russell is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brooks throws a strike but Russell rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Brooks is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Russell is controlling him.
Brooks on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Brooks tries to get out of the position.
Brooks wants to get back to his feet but Russell passes into half guard.
Russell uses his free foot to push down on Brooks's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Brooks.
Russell looks gassed!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brooks tries to hold on but Russell postures up.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Brooks really wants to buck Russell off and get back to his feet.
Brooks tries to reverse the position but Russell maintains control.
You get the feeling that Brooks really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Russell misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Russell landing strikes, looking to finish!

Russell looking to ground and pound but Brooks is blocking nicely.
Brooks is trying to stand but he's just given Russell his back.
Brooks trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Russell throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.

Russell is persistently looking for the submission but Brooks is defending it well.
Brooks is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Russell throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Brooks is trying to get back to his feet but Russell has full control of the position and if anything, Brooks has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Brooks tries to escape but Russell has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!



Brooks shoots in and bounces Russell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Russell looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Brooks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Russell on the ground.
Brooks is looking to advance position but Russell has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Brooks's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Russell putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Brooks is working to get back to half guard.
Russell is breathing heavily.

Brooks has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Brooks trying to control the hands but Russell breaks the grip.

Russell is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Brooks has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Brooks trying to get back to his feet but Russell is in full control for now.
Russell missing with punches from the back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Brooks is trying to defend against the choke here but Russell has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Russell Tightens the hold and Brooks taps out furiously! Russell displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jamal Russell!
