PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Estep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Conner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Estep comes to the cage accompanied by Courageous. Jon Conner will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brian Estep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Conner!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Estep scores with a one two! Conner had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Jon Conner has been cut.
Conner looks to clinch

and Estep counters with a takedown into side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Estep decides to stand back up. Estep steps back and let's Conner get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Conner pushes Estep up against the cage in a clinch.
Conner is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Conner jumps guard and drags Estep to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Estep trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Estep gets to his feet - Conner follows without any prompting.

Estep shoots in and bounces Conner off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Conner doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Conner is working an open guard so Estep takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Estep walks forward, straight into a front kick from Conner.
Estep is breathing heavily.
Conner wants to clinch
and Estep counters with a straight right hand.

Estep rushes Conner and presses him up against the cage.
Conner has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Estep avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Conner is trying to break the clinch but Estep is controlling him.

Estep pulls Conner into guard.
Estep wants to sweep here but Conner controlling him for the moment.
Conner stays in close to Estep's body and controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Conner might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Conner wasn't active enough on the ground.
Estep shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Conner as he jumps to the side.
Conner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Estep finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Conner moves to clinch but Estep breaks away
and Estep counters with a three punch combo that has Conner backing up. Conner nods at Estep to acknowledge the strikes.
Estep tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Conner swivels and escapes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Conner tries to clinch but Estep moves out of range.
Estep leaves Conner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Conner scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Estep shoots in and drives through. Conner sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Estep. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Conner throws a head kick that half lands.
Conner works Estep's body with a nice hook.
Nice sprawl there from Conner as Estep shoots in.
Conner tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Estep paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Estep tries to keep at a distance but Conner has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Conner obliges.

Estep has Conner pushed against the cage.

Estep drags the fight down to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Conner forces his way into half guard.
Estep is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Estep is concentrating on defense, preventing Conner from advancing position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Conner wants to free his trapped foot but Estep is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Estep gets full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brian Estep dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jon Conner's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Conner gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Estep preventing the sweep.
Estep controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Conner wriggles free and stands up.

Conner tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Estep swivels and escapes.
Conner is breathing heavily.
Conner tries to clinch
and Estep makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Conner tries to clinch but Estep is having none of it.
Conner throws a sloppy head kick and Estep moves out of range easily.
Estep closes this distance looking for a takedown but Conner circles away.
Estep shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Conner but Conner pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Conner tries to clinch but Estep moves out of range.
A combination from Estep does no damage.
Estep throws a right hand that Conner ducks under and follows up with a left that Conner also avoids with ease.
Estep has a takedown stuffed.

Conner doesn't manage to clinch there - Estep circles away.
Conner is looking to clinch but Estep is avoiding it.
Estep stuffs the takedown attempt from Conner. Conner gets slowly back to his feet.
Jon Conner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Conner's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Conner duly obliges.
Estep shoots in for a takedown but Conner shows good takedown defense.
Conner is looking to clinch but Estep is avoiding it.
Conner fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Estep counters with a nice double leg into side control. Conner won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Conner regains half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Estep stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Conner to get to his feet.
Conner throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Conner tries to clinch there but Estep circles away.

Estep shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Conner tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Estep has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Estep controlling from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Estep punishing his opponent with strikes.
Estep looking to control and managing it successfully.
Estep in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Conner has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Conner looks to clinch
and Estep counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Conner lands a right hook to the body.
Conner tries to clinch up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Estep.
Estep will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Conner keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brian Estep. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Estep tries to move into range but Conner moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Conner tries to clinch there but Estep circles away.

Conner lands a big head kick that sends Estep tumbling to the mat! Conner takes a step backwards and waves Estep back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Estep is rocked!


It looks like Brian Estep has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Conner lands a big right hook! Estep looks hurt but is still standing! Conner lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Estep falls down and Conner dives in with a huge hammer fist! Estep's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Conner runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jon Conner!
An out of breath and clearly excited Jon Conner thanked Saving Grace Clothing for their help and support (and free stuff they sent him).
