PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samuraimo Rassi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Keane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rassi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Damian Marley - It Was Written . I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Samuraimo Rassi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roy Keane!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rassi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Keane's head.
Rassi gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Keane decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rassi's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Rassi wants to stand and escape but Keane is having none of it.
Keane wants to pass the guard but Rassi is keeping the position.
Rassi wants to stand up but Keane is controlling him.
Keane not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Keane trying to control the position from guard on top but Rassi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Keane looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Roy Keane has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Keane throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rassi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Keane is in Rassi's guard.
Keane trying to control the position from guard on top but Rassi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Keane stops Rassi from standing up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Keane is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Rassi wants to stand but Keane is controlling the position.
Keane stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rassi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rassi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Keane content to stall in guard here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Keane takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A punch combination from Rassi misses.
Samuraimo Rassi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rassi checks the leg kick nicely there.
Rassi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Rassi lands a nice looking kick to the body. Keane takes a step back to recover.
Rassi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Keane shoots in looking for a takedown but Rassi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Keane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rassi fails with an attempt to clinch.

Rassi drives through and clinches with Keane against the cage.
Rassi landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rassi breaks the clinch.
Rassi is looking to clinch but Keane is avoiding it.
Rassi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Keane changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rassi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Rassi tries to escape but Keane is in control.

Keane looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rassi pushes Keane away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Keane gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Keane has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Rassi is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Keane yanks on the arm and Rassi is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Keane.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Roy Keane!
Roy Keane is the new welterweight champion!
After winning the bout, Roy Keane thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
