The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovacs fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Kovacs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kovacs tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.
Michael Kovacs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kovacs throws a sloppy head kick and Carter moves out of range easily.
A big head kick from Kovacs and Carter is sent sprawling to the canvas!

It looks like Rick Carter has been cut.
Kovacs throwing strikes but missing.

Kovacs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carter's guard.
Carter wants to improve his position but Kovacs is controlling well.

Kovacs is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carter defends it well.
Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Kovacs seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Carter lands a head kick that stumbles Kovacs and the fighters go to the mat.
